The food is a basic need for us. Food gives energy to our bodies and enables us to perform different activities. It is the basic ingredient required for the growth of our bodies. The quality and nutritional value matter a lot, and the effects on the body can be easily seen. The quality of food we get depends on various factors such as the use of pesticides, fertilizers, and the geographical location where the food was grown. I am a vegetarian, and wheat along with vegetables, fruits, milk, and milk products are the main items in my diet. For me, the quality of food items is always a matter of concern. The reason is straightforward: the food we receive is more adulterated than we can imagine. I would like to shed some light on the term "food adulteration," which refers to the deliberate alteration of food quality. People do this to make more profit by adding ingredients that modify different properties of food products such as color, appearance, weight, taste, volume, and shelf life for economic reasons. No doubt, such alterations make the food unhealthy. Especially in today's Indian market, it's very tough to find pure food without any alteration. And if you want to be sure of the quality of food, you have to pay a premium price for it.


If we think about the current situation of food adulteration, we come to the conclusion that not a single person or community is solely responsible. At first, we point our fingers at the farmers and accuse them of altering the food we buy from the market. No doubt, the use of pesticides and fertilizers in large quantities is the first cause of the problem. But why are they doing so? Of course, to get more harvest and more profit from selling the crop in the market. The inflation rate is so high that farming has become a costlier business, and to make it profitable, farmers are bound to use chemicals. There is another sector that is always highlighted. The milk market is a big business in India, and this sector is also being badly affected in terms of quality. We purchase milk and use it daily. We know milk contains almost all the nutrients required for body growth, but what we do not know is the quality of the milk. It is more harmful to the body in such cases?


Because of such reasons, many times I think of growing our own food, but honestly, it is not a part-time job. You have to be thoroughly involved and give agriculture full time if you want to achieve the mark where you grow sufficient food that is enough for your family. If you want to have a kitchen garden, then it's okay; you can plan and enjoy the yield. But for a larger scale, it's not possible without full involvement. I have a small kitchen garden, and the idea of having our own kitchen garden arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. Most people were free at home, and I was also one of them, so to keep myself engaged, I started the kitchen garden. The experience was very successful then I stared plating some fruit plants. Out of all the papaya was the one who grown well. We have a big mango tree in our yard and in summer season we enjoy the tasty mango from the tree and also blessed the peson who plant it years ago.
