In my previous introductory post, I mentioned that my page will primarily be about travel, my daily life in China, and delicious foods. This will be my first post of delicious foods. I went to the amazing restaurant known as "Grandma's Home" 外婆家.

Today, my friends and I went to Grandma's Home 外婆家 in Wenzhou, which is a now popular franchise that offers local food from the famous city of Hangzhou 杭州. The restaurant also offers delicious dishes from all around China. The restaurant bears this name because it wants to present to the customer that the food tastes like home cooking. It definitely gets that right!

We went to the mall, MixC 万象城, to go eat at one of our favorite restaurants.

The mall boasts a large assortment of different retail stores and other delicious restaurants as well. For us, we knew exactly where we needed to go. Up the escalators we went.

After going up 5 floors, we finally reached our destination, Grandma's Home 外婆家!

The restaurant offers many small appetizers, main courses, and also tasty Chinese desserts. The menu is very nicely designed. Look at all the delicious choices of food!

The ambiance and environment of the restaurant is very nice. It can easily sit hundreds of people, but your group can have a large table to yourself and feel quite secluded from others. It is a little dark, but it has a nice relaxing feel to it.

Even the table setting is pretty and adds a bit of refinery to your dining experience.

Braised Whole Chicken

The chicken was so tender and flavorful. The skin was soft and melted in your mouth. On the bottom of the chicken, you could dip the meat in a very savory sauce which added flavor.

Soft Scallops topped with Garlic and Glass Noodles

The soft scallops were steamed very nicely. It may seem like there is too much garlic, but the garlic really added a nice flavor to the scallop. The glass noodles complemented the rest of the dish very well.

Spicy Potatoes cooked on Hot Plate

The potatoes were cooked perfectly. They were spicy and soft, the sauce that covered the potato really went nicely with the rice. Highly recommend!

Stir fried Cauliflower with Crispy Pork

Steem (5).jpg

Back in America, I ate broccoli more often than cauliflower. In China though, cauliflower is a very common vegetable that is eaten. This stir fried cauliflower was cooked to perfection, the tops of the cauliflower were crispy and tender. The taste was peppery with a tinge of spice, it was made very well. The crispy pork added in was a bonus!

Spicy Steamed Fish Head

IMG_20170622_184503.jpg

Unlike in China, fish head is not common at all in America. I understand some people may feel uncomfortable upon looking at a fish head, but the taste really is wonderful. This particular fish head is topped with many spicy peppers, has a wonderful broth, spicy noodles added in, and above all the fish is tender and savory. Spicy steamed fish head is really one of my favorite kinds of dishes to eat in China. I love it!

The only little downside is that there are some little bones, so please be careful with that!

After ordering all this food, we ordered a few more of the same dishes and had some drinks as well. The total came out to be 314RMB, which is 46$. Mind you, we split this entire meal 5 ways!! That's one of the great things of China, absolutely delicious food for unbelievably cheap prices!

Grandma's Home 外婆家 is a restaurant you definitely have to try when you travel in China or already live here.
