They promise to assist you to develop into a more slender, fitter and fitter version of yourself if you would eat more of this type of food daily.

Superfoods are surely a sexy subject, increasing in popularity in the last few decades, with fashionable exotic foods such as goji berries and pomegranates becoming easier to find on grocery shelves much from where they initially were developed.

"They could cure you, stop diseases and considerably enhance our well-being," guarantees one publication about the 50 best superfoods.

However, a specific definition of what qualifies as a superfood does not really exist,'' states Antje Gahl, that works for a German nourishment society. "Generally speaking, superfoods are the ones which are highly nutritious, particularly from the fruits and vegetable kind."

More and more, she states, local manufacturers are grabbing on to the ability of their superfood new and selling domestic things beneath the tag.

The simple fact that superfoods frequently come from far-away nations isn't a coincidence, as reported by a consumer center from the German city of Bremen. The mixture of exotic and wholesome appeals to a lot of people, says Regina Aschmann, that doles out information for people interested in nourishment.

She worries that you don't have to consume superfoods so as to remain healthy. "As long as you consume a balanced diet healthy, locally grown foods, you do not require exotic superfoods," she urges.

Exotic does not mean greater

Products from different continents can also be grown under distinct, occasionally laxer, criteria adds Aschmann. "With exotic foods, even though there is a natural label on it, the threat that such guidelines are not really stuck to is much higher," she clarifies.

Promotional advertisements promising health benefits -- for instance, which pomegranates help contrary to the signs of menopause and prostate cancer should be viewed with skepticism. "Such advertisements promise everything under sunlight, but not a lot of it's known," she states.

And while superfoods grown overseas can add variety to your daily diet, they are no more nutritious than home-grown vegetables and fruits. Since Aschmann points outside, superfoods shed some nutrient value throughout their lengthy shipping travels, which also damage the environment.
