Eating Local: Delicious Creations at Moon & Turtle Restaurant in Hilo, Hawaii

in food •  7 years ago

The best place to dine out in downtown Hilo, Hawaii is Moon & Turtle, hands-down.

The restaurant is run by a husband and wife, Mark and Soni. Mark Pomaski is the head chef, with numerous experiences working in high-end restaurants around the world, while his wife, Soni is the mixologist, who enjoys making unique, original, fresh cocktails.

The restaurant sources their food locally fresh, daily. They go to market and buy all of their ingredients for dinner during the morning/day. So all the food they prepare is fresh, nothing frozen, ever.

That also brings to the next thing is that they print out new menus daily. There is no menu that is ever exactly the same. They set-up the menu with Small Plates and Large Plates, and people would order the plates in style that you would share the food amongst the group. It's like Spanish tapa-style, but in Asian-fusion Hawaii style.

Below are some of the highlight dishes that Moon & Turtle makes (be prepared to salivate):

Smokey Sashimi

Brussels Sprouts

Ahi-Style Salad

Asian-Style Pork Pappardelle

Stir-Fry Noodle Dish

Which of these dishes would you eat?

I would love to have the Brussels Sprouts. :-)

Yes the Brussel Sprouts dish was made wonderful. It's a mixture of German and Hawaiian flavors put together!
