Food Adventures 7 : London Chinatown Buffet

in food •  7 years ago

In one of my walks in London the road lead to Piccadilly and from there I bumped into Chinatown.

I had been to Chinatown a couple of times before eating duck and I always wanted to try the buffet in one of the many Chinese restaurants there. But before that, I wandered around and took some photos. Chinatown is an ethnic enclave in the City of Westminster, London, bordering the Soho to its north and west, Piccadilly to the south and east.

It contains a number of Chinese restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, souvenir shops, and other Chinese-run businesses.

Of course, besides restaurants, you will regularly find some local street performers that will entertain you before you decide the place of your next meal.

So, I randomly chose the restaurant you see in the photo. I just made sure that price-wise was somewhere in the middle. Sneaked peaked inside, saw a lot of Chinese people, thought it was a good sign and entered.

Things are pretty simple. You get an empty plate, go to the buffet and fill it with whatever you want. And you can refill it as many times as you can digest.

Does anyone know what the white things in the left are? Some kind of a bread maybe ?

Here’s my plate.

You can also notice my trusted notebook next to me or else I wouldn’t remember anything. And you can see a couple of kids. Kids of that age are the same annoyi… eh I mean adorable regardless of their ethnicity. And mothers are yelling the same things in all the languages of the world.

Back to food. I am holding in my hand some chicken fried breast in a stick. Maybe, my favorite piece of food. Tender and juicy with a golden crust.

IMG_20180506_202417.jpg

Next to it, we can see a fried round thing that had somekind of a vegetable inside. Didn’t like it.

IMG_20180506_202742.jpg

Then I had pork ribs in orange sauce. They were absolutely fabulous. Some pieces of chicken that were cooked with herbs and vegetables.

IMG_20180506_203216.jpg

The base was steam rice. It was fresh , steaming hot and full of flavor and aroma.

More cooked herbs and vegetables on their own. I also had fried chicken wings, that were quite raw for my liking. Cooked potatoes that were melting in your mouth.

Battle was won ! I don’t remember eating anything else or have any other notes.

Overall the food was freshly made, most of it was delicious and of good quality. Quantity wise, as I said you could have as much as you could handle. I paid 10.5 pounds for those interested, which was more than fair in my book.

That was another London Food Adventure. I have one more post with some comfort food.

And until the next food adventure…

Did you pay by the plate? lol Nice pics.

thanks.

Haha my old stomping ground bro! Us Southies would come up from Lambeth and massacre a buffet before a big night out in the West end.

Nice reward too man, soon your food adventures will be self-sufficiently funding themselves! Keep going bro, they can bring you to Thailand! 👍

Thank you Kenni. Minnowbooster whitelist was a game changer.
Not sure if it will lead me to Thailand, but at least profitability is somewhat predictable.
Steem on !!!

Hello..what do you see in the left side of the buffet is something like a potato chips, but fried by them..you can find to do it by yourself..I remembered that we found this type of chips when I was younger:)

thanks for the info :)

They are also slightly prawn flavored.. hence why we call them "prawn crackers" in England. Kind of a staple part of any Asian meal there, ironically I've never seen them actually in buffets in China LOL!

Surprising or maybe not.. Brits also put peas and carrots in the fried rice to the shock of some of my Chinese friends.

This one was pure rice though...

The white cracker? Not even the slightest hint of prawn? Man I haven't had one of those things in years lol! :)

Looks awesome man

thank you.

Oh shit ... Busted ... :)

Mmhh, that looks soooo good, I get really hungry now 😉

Hope you had a good dinner. :)

I really like this way of self-service! You immediately see food and choose what you like best! True, we can expect a surprise in terms of taste. But, who does not take risks, that does not eat!

It is an interesting approach. More fun of the traditional way, but why not . From time to time change is good. :)
