3 Good Places to Eat Cheap in London

in food •  7 years ago

Hello everyone! I was recently in London on a budget. Finding cheap eats was difficult so here are 3 suggestions for when you need to save your pennies.

  1. Wellbeing Kitchen
You can eat here for under £5 if you get the Kimchi Jjigae (£4.90). The soup (kimchi, tofu, meat) comes with a sizeable portion of rice. Everything is made to go but there are a few tables to sit down. When I went at 2 p.m. on a weekday, several of the tables were taken, and there was a steady stream of people ordering to go, so I assume it is busy at lunch. The kimchi was a bit sour but it wasn't terrible. If you are a big eater, you might want to choose the chicken katsu with rice because there is a big size.

  1. Indian YMCA
When someone told me about this place, I thought they were joking that it's called the Indian YMCA, but it actually is. (Most of the guests at the hostel were Indian but not all.) The on-site restaurant serves an Indian buffet at lunch and dinner. I went at dinner and paid £9 for all you can eat Indian food, including an apple and some good chai.

  1. The Kati Roll Company
More Indian food!! I got two delicious chicken tikka rolls here for £7.40. They looked kind of small, and I didn't expect them to fill me up for the whole day but I definitely wasn't hungry until dinner. The woman asked me if I wanted some extra sauce, and after seeing other customers dipping their rolls into sauce I wish I had gotten some. There were still delicious without though.

I might have to go back again in a few weeks...any suggestions for more cheap eats?
