Late Dinner/ Supper – Steven’s Corner

in food •  6 years ago  (edited)

I had a close friend since my high school days who recently moved from Kepong, all the way to OUG area. Apparently she had to move as their current home was too small to house six people, and residential homes in OUG were pretty affordable at the time her father decided to buy it. It was disappointing as it meant less meet ups for us due to the inconvenience. The jam between Kepong and OUG is no joke, and the distance is not short either.

She has yet to step into the working world, so I took the chance to take a day off to visit her new home the night before. Unfortunately, she was busy that night and only had time to meet up after 9pm. So I waited until then to pick her up only to find that she has yet to have her dinner. Therefore, she suggested that we visit a mamak place that was pretty popular among the OUG people, Steven’s Corner.

Steven’s Corner is said to be famous for their cheese naan. I have tried their naan before a long time ago in another branch, but it was just okay to me. Nothing much to rave about. However, she assured me that OUG’s branch is the best among them all so, I decided to give it a chance.

Upon arrival, the place was already jam packed due to the football season. The setting of the restaurant was definitely more appealing than the last one I had been to. It was a corner lot that was elevated from the ground, so the side tables had a “balcony feel” to it. Their tables and chairs were purely metal which chilled my bottom when I sat on it due to the cold night. It was slightly higher class than the standard mamak. Same comment goes to their toilets.

The variety of food and drinks in their menu was impressive as well but prices were also slightly higher compared to my experience with mamak visits. I decided to give their naan another try, and ordered the garlic cheese naan, costing RM7.00 and “Teh Ais” costing RM2.50. My friend went with “Roti Telur”, costing RM2.00 and hot Milo costing RM3.00. The staff was friendly, and they had two televisions set up for the football fans.

Our order arrived approximately 15 minutes later, so the wait time was alright I guess. The presentation of my naan was okay too, considering they did not just throw it on a cheap plastic plate like every other mamak. There were freshly cut garlic used as a topping on the naan, which I did not really like. I expected them to have it slightly cooked. This caused the garlic taste of the naan to be pretty off when combined with the cheesy naan. The cheese on the other hand tasted like the standard cheap cheese most mamak would use. But the taste of the cheese was alright nonetheless. Half of the naan’s edges were more burnt than the other half which affected the taste slightly.

Meanwhile, my “Teh Ais” had a stronger tea taste to it as opposed to the normal ones you would get that are rich in condensed milk flavouring. The rest of our orders were of standard levels like every other mamak so, not really worth mentioning.

Reminded me of the mamak outside of my school...one of my previous lecturers highly recommended their Cheese Naan. To be honest that was the first time I took Naan and my biggest comment is "not enough to be a complete meal for me" 😂😂 yeah, I haven't tried Naan at any other places so I can't do any comparisons.

Another place to eat...marking my maps 😂😂
