Here's an ahha moment that you folks will appreciate. I am no where near self sufficient and we still buy too much rather than raise.. but as time goes on, it sneaks up on you how far you have really come- without planning or even noticing until now- we had home raised fresh eggs, homemade bread and homegrown homesmoked bacon for breakfast. For lunch it was fresh bread and (my)venison stew, with potatoes out of our tiny harvest last fall. And I just ground a bunch of pork from the pig and sausage meat from the pig,and threw together a meatloaf that included fresh eggs, homemade salsa, fresh green onions and rosemary from my indoor herbs, bread crumbs from my bread... way more than 50 percent of my food today was hands on in some way. It feels great!
