Britafilters hacked, read the whole hacking story! STEEMIT EXCLUSIVE !

I knew that the cocaine in that bag on the Bomann digital scale would catch your attention. So why do we need so much cocaine to hack the Britafilter?

If you never heard of Brita, the Britafilter tells you through bars, when to change and buy a new Brita Filter. I always wondered if there was a way to re-use or recycle these filters, as it felt wrong that i couldn't recycle these filters (its a lot plastic)

And of course i was sick of paying 7$ a month for a filter, which seems to be usable longer than 30days... (depends on countries, in Japan 60days, Europe 30 days)

First we had to find out the difference in water quality with a new Brita Filter and an old one.

We used an old and brand-new Filter and tested the dH numbers (dH=German degree of hardness)

Score: 17 dH (30 days old Britafilter)

After that we took a new Brita filter.

Score: 1 dH

Online you will find some tutorials, how to drill into a Britafilter, which is a bit of a hassle, for example here. Drilling? No way ! That is way too complicated and too much effort.

We decided that we would only go a more elegant different way.

After cutting up a Britafilter and learning how it was setup, my friend did some research and he found out that the easiest way might be to start a cleansing the filter.

The following items are needed:

  • 200g   99.8% NaCl Salt tabs ( 99,8)
  • 2L Water
  • 2 x pot

So first put 200g of pure NaCl Salt tabs into the pot and add 2L water into the pot and boil it (the tabs will melt at around 100C)

Put 1L into another pot and wait until the remaining saltwater cools down to 80-85C. Once it has cooled down to 85C, put the Britafilter into the pot and leave it there for 15 minutes (take some chopsticks and move it in the water, to wash it out a bit.

The main component of the Britafilter is activated carbon, so at over 70C most of the impurities will be flushed out.

(If you are concerned about Bacteria etc. it usually will be eliminated after 6-8 Minutes in 80C water, so this method should be save)

After the 10 minutes, take the remaining 1L of salt water and filter it through the Britafilter. It will wash out the remaining Magnesium, Calcium etc. (Do not use the dirty 1L from the pod we used before!!)

After finishing, dont use the 2L of water, it goes into your sink!! Do not drink that water...!!

Now, we are good to go! Put Tab water in the Brita and run another GH Test.

It will now show 1dH !!! (Same as brand new)

So how often and how long are you able to use this life-hack? We recommend not to use one filter longer than 24 Month. Usually the Ion-Exchanger works for roughly 2 years, so after that its a no go.

We are cleansing one cartridge now for 4x -6x times, but it depends on how often you use Brita.

So, sorry that 500g of cocaine is a bag of pure 99.8% NaCl Salt tabs, we can legally hook you up with that anytime you want :0)  (I know you got all excited, but everything legal here)

Kudos and big applause to my Pal @eyeye who invented this method (Please follow this hacker, he will present more interesting staff soon from his own account)

Let us know your thoughts through a comment, we are using this method since a year and we didn't have any trouble.

@btotherest This is a Golden Nugget!

Thank you! We use Brita all the time and i will try this out. Its only 10 Euro but in a year that is 120 Euro .

I hope you get into Nugget Choice!

thank you!

That's impressive work!

hey followed you!

great to see you here! i think its a great way to save a lot money. especially in countries where 10$ is still a lot money.
everybody can boil water, so this is a great trick!

thanks! i see it as a great way to use less plastic bottles..I hate plastic :(
Thank you for following, i;'m a big fan. can't wait for your next food trip --> i'm gonna write one about romanian food soon.I hope you'll dig it!

oh yeah i am very interested in Romanian food.

The environment and my wallet thanks you, Upvoted!

;) thank you !

Never seen or heard of this method! Awesome stuff :)

forgot 1thing. the salt costs around 8 cent for 200g ;) so the savings are really great.

@knozaki2015 This is a great post. Not anything i needed, but good info to have anyways. Upvoted you, and also am following you now that following actually works. Hope to see more great stuff from you in the future!

William, thanks! yeah. I think it is a pretty interesting life-hack :)

Wow!

;) are you a user of brita?

Oh i need to try this out! Have to go find my filter!

yeah its super cheap. just 5-8cents for the salt. one post on Steemit, and you can pay for your next cleansing!

I wonder if the swill work on my "liquid" filtration system in my suit?

haha, yeah it will my LORD ;)

Great post @knozaki2015. How many 'resets' do you think a filter will last?

you could do 12-24 resets. but i would only do 4-7 resets.
but you can always use the dH tester and find out. the problem is, that the ION Exchange might stop working after too many resets. so i am personally only doing 4 resets per cartridge. (but you could maybe do much more, depending on your using profile and water quality)

Thats an amazing work.
Very Impressive

;) thanks mindfreak. my friend is doing F5 F5 F5, as he is excited to see all the comments ;)

Haha I bet he must have lured with his performance. xD

;)

I've always said the best way to learn something is to begin with copious amounts of cocaine and then introduce the science.

;) yeah, it was a little bit click-bait ;) but the picture looked so funny, i had to make that joke...
but i find this life-hack quite intersting. because we all use so much plastic and other things and produce so much waste, so its great to reduce the waste and save 10$ a month...

going to try this out

Hi, yeah report back with your thoughts!

Very clever. I think companies deliberately date their product expiries early as it serves their profit margins.

well, in this case Brita has to be defended to a point, as after one month or two, it really doesnt filter too much out.
but i think the whole concept that you have to change the whole plastic filter seems to be a waste problem.
its the same with printers, so we should applause my friend, that he came up with this very interesting hack ;)

I researched the web, but there were only drilling methods, or people talking about washing it out, but nobody else on the web used the scientific approach with really putting effort and time into it.

Hab schon längst gelesen und gevoted , Bussi. PS: Check your Wallet.

cool ! danke. ist fuer nen kumpel ;)

aww man, I wish steemit was around in 2008-2012 when I had one of these at my apartment, lol.

Woulda saved a ton of money if you posted this back then :P

well, its a world exclusive lifehack ;) yeah, and i wish too that we had Steemit in the past.

following you now ;) i thought you are a bot. or is that mr. wong?

I'm @MrWang not @Wang... but thanks for Wanging back on the reponse :P

#Wang haha, I should definitely take a hold of this hashtag.

I should also consider doing a video just to clear the confusion.. I'm not affiliated or related with the "Other" Wang

Wang Chun

i would vote it , if you did the video. and i am sure you could earn a lot $$$ with a funny video

I already have a bunch of funny videos on my page @mrwang

have you checked them out yet?

Should I develop a funny video let everybody know we are not the same?

That's Impressive I tried it with my Brita and it worked a treat... nice one @eyeeye

thats quick ! ok cool it worked for you too!

@knozaki2015 i've just followed you... cool post... I share hacks for cancer and all illness hope you give me a follow. :)

followed you too ! and i am very interested in that cancer stuff.
i shot you 5SBD to support you a bid !

Hmm...I don't how I feel about this :) I think it ultimately depends on the quality of your water.

yes, it depends on the water quality. the water in europe is much worse than in asia. so usually the britta should only be used maybe 6x. in japan you could use it longer.
but it depends although on your using patterns.

but we did the tests, after washing out, the filter is as good as new.

anyway, we just wanted to show you that it is technically possible to clean the filter.

Oh, I know. I was just messign with you. Brita's will get out most metals and organics as long as the filter is fresh. ion exchange filters, which you mentioned, are key too.

;)

Yeah, good stuff. Write more life-hacks.

yeah my friend will soon write some other lifehacks ;) i think he is doing something on food now ;)
he is a real funny guy and his lifehacks are really great ;)

started following you!

Wow, I have soo much reading to do with all these great posts.
