What Japanese Airline's Business Class serve

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

I would like to start sharing my own experience of biz class food, and the first post in this series is the JAL's Tokyo to New York City flight.

I will share my opinion whether it worths the money at the end.

Dinner

#1: Appetizer with cold noodle, cheese, and Japanese Sake. The Sake is smooth and sweet!

#2: The main dish of Dinner. Nice presentation!

#3: Unboxed. Authentic Kaiseki Dinner.

IMG_1486.jpg

#4: The second main dish, with nicely steamed Salmon and hot rice. Yum!

IMG_1487.jpg

#5: Dessert, also traditional Japanese one.

After dinner snack

This is a 15 hours flight, and obviously people (e.g. me) feels hungry after dinner. So snack is prepared:

对于一个15个小时的航班,宵夜是必不可少的!

Noodle is sprinkled with truffle oil. Really tasty!

Breakfast

Authentic Japanese breakfast includes rice. And to be honest, this is really tasty as well. The pickles really woke me up!

Who will say no to coffee and sweet after breakfast?

Summary

I found I really enjoyed this trip, which is totally different from the experience in economic class (I feel I am dying after 15 hours in economic class...). The price difference is quite substantial: $2,700 v.s. $800 one way. I would say it worths the money tho. If I can afford, I probably will try to stay in biz class in future. Big if, lol. Hopefully steemit can help me to achieve my dream ;-)

Unfortunately, I have a bitter experience related to food serve in Airlines. Good to see your post with positive experience .

Yeah I will share more experience of food in airlines later. Have to agree with you that some of them are quite bitter lol

I've had bad experiences as well with other airlines. I will be going to Japan in September, but from LAX, and if prices aren't too crazy hopefully I can take business class and experience this.

Please leave me a comment and share your thoughts!

I like your photos! Such a strict masculine atmosphere and good food.

That looks really good. Can you tell a bit about the difference in food quality compared with economy class? I never flied with a japanese airline and I would love if you could write some short words to the economy class meals too.
On my last flight to thailand with turkish airlines we got some interesting meals. The meaty ones were ok, the more or lesss vegetarian ones were mhhh interesting. I think I have to also make a post about that xD
Did they ask you about food allergies or intolerances before serving the food? The stewardess on my flight was a bit overwhelmed because we asked her if the food contained diary products and it seemed that she heared this question for the first time because she had no idea.

Good photos! Tasty food!

15 hours it’s so long journey....In Japanese Airlines business class services is too good....I like so much their food presentation... really so nice decoration...all foods are looks delicious... I really like the second main dish with steamed Salmon and hot rice... and also like the breakfast menus...A cup of coffee made a day... hope you feel better.... thanks for sharing your experience....

Yeah totally! I don't remember exactly how long but I would say ~15 hours. I used to feel totally exhausted after this kind of long travel, but definitely not the case this time!

I've followed you yesterday but I guess it's not going to do any good to my weight :D my hunger just spiked up crazy after seing those pics :D

And btw, at the end you wanted to say if it's worth the money, but you actually didnt say anything ;)

Thank you! Truly appreciated your following!

Thanks for point out the question whether it's worth the money. I just updated the post, I would say it worth the money lol.

Well I have a very bad experience at Etihad Airways.
This is what an Express Snack looks like ...

I think thats heavy , specialy with rice . Air journey makes our stomach move less , so avoiding bulky foods would be nice for digestion . Particularly it would be benefiting the serial travelars .

No better way to fly between Tokyo and NYC than JAL...top notch...and an open bar;)

Its a nice review @leftbank .its seems that the food is well arranged and nicely served.you are lucky to taste these kind of menu.

Quality of the food looks really good!

That all looks amazing. I usually fly British Airways. First, Business or economy (my brother works for them so I get upgrades).
Their decision to remove complementary food and drink on most of their short distance flights is massively disappointing, and in my opinion a short term cost saving exercise which is going to result in long term customer losses.
It's good to see Japan Airlines haven't gone down the cost cutting route... now I just need an excuse to go to Japan (and loads of cash!)

I heard good words about British Airways before! Was going to try them for my next trip to Europe... Thanks for the note!

I see you like posting things about Japan. If you are interested check out my posts :)
Upvoted and will follow.

Japanese culture is very tidy and respective. I also respect them.

You've done it! You made my tummy growl haha
this meal looks like a no miss. Can someone please get me a plate of this already? I'm famished.. Lol

lol

to be honest a good restaurant can easily beat good airline food, but I guess we can lower our standard when it's 10,000 feet from ground ;-)

Unfortunately, i've a bitter experience related to food serve in airlines. Correct to peer your publish with tremendous enjoy .

Interesting, thanks for sharing the post. I have never flown in an airplane. I decided to visit Fiji at the end of August, I think to fly business class and found a good option business class to fiji where you can find a ticket at a reasonable price, as well as the right airline for your trip

That food looks amazing for airline food!

It surprises me that you say you feel it was worth it, I've not flown long haul personally but I'm aware of the huge price differences between standard and business class. As you say in this case there's $1900 difference.

Aside from the food and additional space what other benefits are there? I think I would find it very hard to stomach paying that much additional when I know I am going to the same destination, I would probably rather save the $1900 and drop half of it on a couple of nights in a real luxury hotel upon arriving at my destination.

What made you decide to go business class on this trip? It sounds from what you said like you don't normally?

Good point! I think the biggest difference is how I feel after landed. I feel quite refreshed and ready to work after biz class while feel dying after economy.

I do agree with you that the price is really hard to justify, so I would say I will do it if I can get rich lol

thanks @leftbank for the info

I've traveled business class only a few times but it was absolutely incredible. I flew on air emirates and the experience was amazing.

It looks delicious

Delicious @lefbank :O

In travel there are many benefits worth stopping and many experiences

Hi @leftbank , It's good post on food! I enjoyed your content. Keep up the good work.
It's always nice to see good content here on Steemit !

nice trip

wow looks very nice for airplane food! I never flew in a Japanese airline though...

Did you get any extra swag like a toiletries kit or pajamas/slippers? I wouldn't mind traveling so much if I could do it in business class!

Real enjoyment! You really did have a good time with the delicacies of the airline. And yes your pictures are quite beautiful. Thank you for sharing and for making me to salivate.

Wow those food looks amazing, especially for airplane food! I have been on business class once, but that was many years ago, and business class wasn't as glorious as it is now

That looks a million times better than the stuff I get in economy.. wish I could afford to upgrade. I'm curious on how it compares to an economy class meal for Japanese airlines. I really liked the Kaiseki dinner box, I wonder if they get one of those in economy or just business and above.

Wow such a yummy food i really love japanese food. Here in mindanao they have also a restaurant setting japanese cuisine.

Japanese is one of my favourite cousines. I would eat all of that.
On 15 hours, the food keeps you grounded and entertained. Like dining in a nice restaurant, you don’t notice you are sitting in a chair for hours.

There comes a time in your life where you put yourself first, value yourself above money. Good on you for taking that stace. I agree it’s worth it :)

great service . yummy

Looks yummy

@leftbank - Thanks for sharing your experience with biz class foods.
Japanese hospitality (known as omotenashi).
They seem a good competitor for Singapore airlines ...
they also have a great site:

http://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/service/business/meal/

Looking forward to reading your other experiences...

Is this beer or wine you are drinking on 1-4 photos? 4*0.33l wasnt to much for a 15h flight ?

It's Sake so closer to wine comparing beer. Yeah the flight feels shorter with enough alcohol (-:

stunning presentation :-D atleast something to smile about :-D

The food looks amazing but I have a looooong way to go before I could ever afford to fly business class. :D

All of the food looks incredible. I've never tried true Japanese cuisine and its amazing to think that even 'airline' food can look/be so appetizing. Though the price difference between business and economy is pretty steep, forgive me if I'm being dense but are you allowed to bring hand luggage full of snacks on an economy flight? because even if you spend $200 on really good food you'd still be making a saving?

Some have good and some have bad experience regarding this topic but good thing yours was good. The food seems good to eat too. I hope you enjoyed your flight @leftbank.

Damnnn, looks really good for business class food! Did they only have Japanese style food? Or did they also offer Western style? I know Cathay Pacific has both Chinese and Western.

good taken picture

This is Crypto food !

Hahh, if the selloff will continue, crypto food will soon stop looking that good :D

lol let the bull begin!

This is great @leftbank you got amazing.

Japanese Airlines business class services is too good ,
the presentation is beautiful especially the 3rd picture that of Kaiseki Dinner

Living well! cheers

Looks good! What was the dessert?

good

good

Looks great! i have a relative who only travels business class nowadays, she says it's changed her life.
The food also looks really healthy, just what you need on a long flight.

The main dish reminds me of a bento box like in school, all packed neatly. But omg, the food looks soooo good. I think for long haul-flights it would be worth the extra money for business class. But if it's just a short 5 or so hours, I think just stick to economic.
