EPIC FOOD TRIP: Philippines Lechon

in food •  7 years ago

Hello Steemit Friends,

Will you be able to resist these crunchy mouth-watering roasted pig right here? I will not take yes for an answer because I am really craving for this right now. This is what the Philippine food like. We love roasted foods, one of the best is Lechon or roasted pig. Did you know that before you get the most out of it, the pig needs to get roasted for like 6 hours? It has to be manual, and when I said manual, at least two persons should roll the bamboo stick where the pig is. It could be really tiresome but the results are really worth it and overwhelming once you taste the crunchiness. It's super crunchy from the outside but so tender from the inside.

Here's what it looks like in an hour...

...and here's how it looks like after several hours...

...and get surprised with its aroma that will fill you from the inside.

Lechon is a Spanish name. Must come from the Spaniards being in the Philippines for 397 years. We do a roasted pig similar in Virginia, where I am from in the states. The joke is we eat all of the pig, except the squeal! That is the noise a pig makes, we have not found a way to eat that. The Lechon baboy is great. I also love the chicken and turkey version. I have yet to eat lechon baca.

I'm curious about the squeal, is it bitter in taste or kinda gross? Never taste that before too lol. You gotta try lechon baca mate. Ive got to taste once 5 years ago, ill never forget the taste.

I would really love to try it. Not many places in this area has beef cows.
