Pierogies Food Photo Shoot

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

I've shared my pierogie recipe in the past, but I decided to take some photos with the nice camera now as the old one was done with a cell phone camera.  This is probably my favorite food and this batch was probably my best batch, signaling success for future pierogies to come!

Starts with a simple dough including flour, water, butter, salt and egg.

And creamy mashed potatoes, these had cheddar cheese and bacon pieces mixed in.

The finished dough heads to the fridge for a short chill.

And is later rolled out, cut, filled and shaped.

They get boiled until they float in the water, then removed.  They look like this after being boiled.

And there you have it, my favorite childhood food with a side of my new favorite cheese, goat cheese with an ash layer.

Mmmm... those are nice,. Im polish so I know a bit about pierogis. Gteat photos and im sure they taste delicious

Pierogies...that's a difficult subject matter to display attractively. Good job ! And cheddar and bacon sound delicious in there.

It's one of those things that is so comforting for so many people that it doesn't have to be displayed nicely. Even a sloppy bowl of polish pierogies with soggy onions makes me hungry even if I'm already full. This is my soul food haha.

Great post those pierogies look amazing being Polish I agree once you have homemade there is no going back to store bought ones.

Indeed. But it takes having good homemade ones because it isn't easy to get these right! I've been making them for years and am just now getting good.

Although I admit I got a little scared off by too many doughy lumpy batches haha

Mmm those look good. We love pierogies, but barely ever seem to make them ourselves. Hubby has been the one to make them in the past but hasn't found a recipe he loves so I'm going to try yours next time! Thanks for sharing!

I've tried many recipes always looking for the best one and this is it. I found it in a cookbook titled One Potato Two Potato....an awesome cookbook by the way.

Ooh, I will definitely check it out! Thanks!

Aaand, just like that it's goodbye to Mrs T.
You just can't go back to store-bought after you've had home-made.

Not only that...but Mrs. T doesn't distribute to Acapulco :O

Those look amazing! I have made pierogies before and I never get the thickness of the dough correct. They are always too thick. I also like the touch of cheese that you added. I can almost taste them!

I know exactly the issue youre talking about. Thats partially what i meant about this being my best batch. Try rolling the dough out in two separate sections next time. It makes it easier to get the thickness right

Thanks for the tip! It's super hot and humid in the NE USA right now so I will give it a try in the fall. That's the best time for pierogies.

It's super hot and humid here, the time of year known as canicula where no one wants to do anything. The 40 days of death! Your pierogie craving could still be filled ;D

Ummm tasty looking (without the meat for me). I am going to try this seems simple enough :)

It takes some practice but honestly it's a labor of love and so worth it. I ate a looot of pierogies back when I was vegetarian. Aaahh who am I kidding, I've ALWAYS eaten a lot of pierogies.

I on it. Well it all move next week and big changes (a post to explain dreckly). I might even try vegan; at home a goo comparise I think. Been pesictrayan for year on and off now :)

I was pescatarian for a long time but when I started homesteading I needed more. SO back to bacon ahah

Yes see I think if I was growing the meat myself, I would consider eating meat again :)

Thank you for this post. I did a post about food several days ago (I recommend you Don't watch it) ha,ha ... No I am serious! That said, I like the photos and would enjoy more 'instructional' information. I am trying to eat better in my later years, but lack the know how. @hexdek16 said he would post more food related stuff, but I have not seen it yet.
