Hard to believe, but I'm 39, and this is the first steak I've ever cooked

I was vegetarian since 1994 (when I was 15) and vegan until April of this year. Shocking, huh?

Anyway, this is a filet mignon I got from Butcher Box, which is a service I use to get high-quality meat delivered fresh. Seared in a cast iron skillet and baked at 400ºF until medium rare. Basted with garlic butter during the searing. I didn't have to work today, and I made this for myself for lunch. It was amazing.

I have never cooked steak too. But also, I have never eat it !

Welcome to rest of the food chain! ;)

Thanks!

They look delicious! Looks like a good lunch to me....not bad for someone who hasn't cooked it before.

Thanks! That's exactly what it was for me, a great lunch. I am looking forward to trying again and improving my skills with time. I was mostly worried about accidentally overcooking it. That's what I did with everything I cooked at first after decided to add meat back into my diet after such a long time. I was a little paranoid about food safety and got pretty extreme with my cooking times. A little bit of time on YouTube, and I had all the tips I needed, though, and it's been much better lately.

great job looks good keep it up

Thank you!

@marksheppard you're welcome could you follow me please

welcome to the club.

thanks! :)

It's appealing to the eye haha my bestfriend doesn't even like cooking
But why did you change ?

@imohsaviourwisdo I was curious about that too. Thanks for asking. :)

@marksheppard that looks amazing! Was it grass fed? I used to coach the Bulletproof Diet. It's amazing how the right foods can truly "turn on" your brain and reboot health. Glad you found something that worked for you. Way to go!

Thanks! Yes, it was grass fed and grass finished beef.

I believe excluding meat and all animal products was having a negative effect on my physical and mental health. It was hard to finally come to that conclusion, but I'm glad I did.

It's good you're working to find what works best for you. I've known a few "O" blood type (the type which requires the most animal proteins in their diet) vegans and they all share the same characteristics (after a few years):

  • Poor quality hair
  • Low strength finger/toe nails
  • Difficulty maintaining a happy attitude

Kudos and great health in your new venture! :D

Okay... Nice steak anyway

Interesting. What changes did you notice in your body and/or energy after eating meat for the first time in so long?

You just nailed it ,your post have nice content .

This looks mouth watering good!

Wow looks delicious 👍👍

Medium rare. They were delicious and so tender you could just cut it with a fork.

Fillets you are suppose to cook rare to medium rare.
This steak would be rare.

Is it pork ?or beef mutton?

Beef tenderloin.

@marksheppard awesome roasted meat🍖 🤤🤤💗
can you tell me the whose meat 🍖 is this?

Thanks!! I got it from Butcher Box.

Soo,
You're saying that after 24 years you just decide to buy a Fillet from a butcher that you say you been using to get meat delivered? Yet you don't eat meat, and you say in the title that this is the first steak that you ever cooked?
Tell me the mentality of this post?
And that is not how you cook a Fillet
And that is not MEDIUM Rare.
That's Rare.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Sorry if that wasn't clear. That wasn't actually meant to be a post about how I wasn't vegan anymore. It's been nearly 3 months since I decided to no longer be vegan and add meat and animal products back into my diet. It was a tough decision at the time, but it is one that I am glad I made now.

Because I had not included meat in my diet for so long, however, learning how to cook it has been a little challenging. This meal was not the first meat I've cooked, but it was the first steak or something that was a little more costly.

As far as me not doing it right, then I can't wait to get better, because whatever I did today was delicious.

With due respect but, when you were vegetarian and then vegan, were you sure about what you were doing? I mean, were you conscious about your actions? Thanks.

Yes, I was definitely conscious about my actions. :)

looks delicious sir!

Nice to see you back over to the dark side! I can't resist a good steak. Out of curiosity, what made you give up the old ways? :)

For the first steak you’ve cooked I’d say you more than passed lol. It looks delicious!

Thanks! I asked some friends for tips and watched some YouTube videos before trying it.

This is a success story.

eww looks disgusting!

Life is so many things to enjoy, welcome to a wider gamut of flavors...!

great man

A scent can be smelled through the screen

Not shocking at all. I was living strict vegetarian for 10 years...until I got pregnant and could not resist a steak. :)
I would say, welcome back to a balanced life.

I was a vegetarian for a year, and the truth is that I do not know how I achieve it ... I like meat so much! How did you manage to not eat meat for 24 years ?! I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YOU!!
PD: I must also say that to be the first time you do a steak, it looks wonderful.
Greetings from Venezuela!

I also love eating steak..
Just curious about a reason that turned you into this meat world.

Can you teac me cook a steak

Looks Delicious!

I grew up eating red meat and LOVE it. :) I'm definitely the wrong blood type for it though. That much meat would put me to sleep for a few hours and cause digestive pain for 3 days.

It creates hours of energy in my child though, because they're not my blood type. lol

I'll be interested to hear what your blood type is and how well that steak digested. Kudos for stepping outside the box. :)

Go BE Awesome!!

I read the comments and realize this is a cooking receipe sharing post.

I am a Vegan and not a militant one. I was a hardcore diabetic who ate meat. I decided to do a 90 day trial and see the results. The diabetes practically reversed. Is it for everybody? No! Is there one diet that fits all? No! Anyone who tells you that is full of shit.

This works for me and that is fine and dandy. I can say I miss meat, but the pros outweigh the cons in my experience. I have repsect for vegans and meat eaters alike. Militant vegans usually have something to prove, and I on the other hand know what works for me, and I live and let eat. Enjoy that steak for me Mark! Awesome post! Live and let humans live. I think diabetes is a special case! Kudos to you Mark!

I don't what other think but it's scientifically proved that vegetarian people can live 20years more then non vegetarian one.the reason behind this is that for example :- 100grams of meat can take up to 4 to 5 days to digest properly in human body.images.jpeg

i agree with u buddy

Respectfully, where did you get that information?
