We booked some months ago for lunch, and really enjoyed the atmosphere and cuisine of this spacious restaurant.
Most guests arrived a little after we did at 1pm - and it was great to start early on the tasting menu: we saw all the dishes for the first time coming to us, so no spoilers.
And, a very pleasant surprise, was to receive our menu - with my wife's pescatarian version - promptly after we ordered. It meant we could look ahead and keep track of our 15 small courses.
Everything was perfectly crafted, with fish dominant. And the menu also had the year the dish was introduced to the menu. Another terrific idea.
Best dishes were the Mille-feuille of smoked eel and foie gras, with a thin, crunchy caramelised apple top (1995).
Another classic from 2001 (pictured) was the vegetable hearts salad. A number of dishes, such as this one, had soft gels under-pinning them, which carried much of the flavour. In this case clear but tomato.
My Galician chicken (pictured) was more comfort food as it came in a tasty broth. A new dish this year.
The Red Shrimp with dill foam (pictured) from 2014 was a taste treat.
But the hake accompanied by a green curry and coconut emulsion was the least successful. It was introduced this year and should not make it to the next.
Desserts were both terrific, and the dish we both enjoyed the most on the day was the lemon sorbet with basil juice. Brilliant combo. Last was the honeycomb bits with cinnamon (pictured).
This is a familiar style of fining dining (think Da Vittorio and Dal Pescatore) and comforting for that. A confident chef at the top of his game.
And receiving our wine's label on leaving was another nice touch we've seen elsewhere.
You won't be awe-struck but you will enjoy.
