Short Road Trip to Western Kenya: Beautiful Sceneries all the way. Wonderful food: I forgot all my troubles

in food •  7 years ago

It has been a while since I travelled by road for more than four hours. I totally forgot how exhilarating it is to look outside the window of a moving car and watch all the beauty that our natural terrains come with. I went to school in rift valley and such were the moments I enjoyed travelling to school. You could see lakes, hills, valleys filled with life, streams, animals crossing the roads and beautiful sky. It was heavenly when not tiring. Eventually I got so used to these long journeys and the excitement died down. I stopped long travels by the road all together.

The last two days I got chance to go on a road trip for a work meeting. For the most part we travelled in the night as the journey was a long one. However, for the times that were during the day I got to enjoy very much sceneries in Narok county, Kisii county, Migori and Nyamira Counties. Kenya is a beautiful country. I have not been an active domestic tourist, with this short trip, I have reconsidered. I will ensure that I take few trips every year.

The trip brought back so many memories and allowed me to relax as I awed at what I was seeing on the road. I might have gotten back home tired and extremely sleepy but in my mind I was well rested and ready to take on the world.

Beautiful art at a hotel in Narok

And from the back

An elephant holder and table mats made of dried banana trunk. This was so innovative and beautiful. The decor in the restaurant spoke Kenyan art and I loved it. The holders for toothpicks were also a piece of work.

The food

Each county is known for certain delicacies. In Migori we had a delicious wet fried Nile perch. I was so hungry I forgot to take a photo. This fish dish was heavenly. We had it at twin breeze hotel. This is the same hotel we spent the night and it is a good place. When in Migori check it out.

The next hotel is in Narok, so we ordered mbuzi (goat meat) and the dish was awesome. Service was good and we enjoyed the late night meal. This time I remembered the evidence.

While I had to get back home late and little sleep. I really enjoyed this trip and hope to organise others soon. This time they will not be as a result of work but tourism mainly. Kenya is a beautiful country and I plan to enjoy it.
