If you want to eat well and don't want to make it yourself from scratch, it's likely better to eat local, and not from a national chain. Doesn't matter how haute or lowly their image is. To maintain a startlingly consistent flavor profile across a large geographic area you inevitably have to do "ruin" the food in some way. Half their ingredients are going to be bulk manufactured and frozen, and the other half bulk manufactured and covered in preservatives to prevent spoilage. And who knows what else they did to facilitate making it in large batches or what they did later to cut costs. Of course, local joints aren't likely to be completely healthy either.
