Morning Steemians. I couldn't post last night so here's Tuesdays thoughts and actions:
I had a bad night's sleep for some reason. The last time I did this I slept well in general. So who knows?
On waking I didn't feel too good. Rather tired and uninclined to go digging. I decided to have a peaceful day. As I am retired I can choose such a path if I desire. Here's a list of what I am keeping track of:
Glucose level
Ketone level (serum betahydroxybutyrate - BOHB)
Glucose-ketone index (glucose divided by ketone level)
Weight, first thing in the morning after visiting the loo
Blood pressure and pulse
Waist circumference a) around the belly button and b) just above around the narrowest part
My morning readings were Glucose 5.1 mm/L up a bit from Monday and Ketones, 1.6mm/L, which I was very pleased about. After I'd been out in the evening (only green tea of course) I was incredibly surprised to find glucose down and ketones 2.6mm/L Great stuff. Much better than last time (early November 2017)
Here's a graph I'm making of my progress:
You can see Monday's. I didn't measure ketones Monday morning as I thought it would waste a ketone strip and I haven't got too many at the mo'. They're at least a pound each off ebay. Glucose strips are about 20p.
The last time I did this, Monday and Tuesday weren't so favourable as you can see, here:
You can see I reached 1mm/L ketones about a day later then, so I am very encouraged. I must be more fat adapted.
During the day I mainly did work at the computer, read and was generally rather lethargic. I drank water with ice and a chunk of lime (as much as I felt like which wasn't too often) green tea, turmeric gold tea and in the early evening I had a feast of half a stock cube in hot water with added Himalayan salt. That was tasty.
Here's a picture of my Optium Neo blood glucose/ketone meter I got off ebay for about £28:
Beautiful ketone reading for Tuesday...
So that was about it. Basically I didn't feel too good not too much fun during the day but the evening was better with my Chan (precursor of zen) friends.
Next time I'll mention the 'Fasting Mimicking Diet' during which some food is allowed, but of a particular makeup.
ps I lost 2.4 lb. Probably about half of that is water, the rest fat. A small amount of muscle might go until the ketones kick in, as they are muscle sparing. I don't expect to lose muscle mass during the week and might even gain a little overall.

As a child I went through a stage of making a mug of OXO and dipping in loads of bread. Mmm, halcyon days ;)
I'm not sure what my body is doing regarding my regime but I don't miss/crave breakfasts any more and mid-afternoon and evening hunger pangs are nothing like they use to be.

when I was 35 I woke up one morning with a powerful thought/command to not eat for 30 days. Hunger was not an issue after 3 days. Not putting flavor in my fouth was the hardest, but I was working 2 jobs then and 20 hours a day. I lost about a pound a day for 3 days then maybe about another pound over the next 27. When the 30 days was up, I felt like I could push a house over! talk about strength and stamina! All I did for the next 3 days was eat. LOL Buffets every day!
I Never realy knew about fasting other than a word that meant not eating for a period of time. Now I understand how important it is to let your body be in a natural state and heal, free of whatever we ingest. Have I done it again? nope, but I do eat far less.
Cheers

Thanks, Cody. Very interesting. Wonderful of you to actually stay in Panama too... Like to get over there sometime. Jan in England can be pretty bad. Today was especially miserable. Still we had a nice fire with family round for Sunday lunch. PJ
