Yesterday I had the pleasure of experiencing (yes experiencing, not just tasting) the best milkshake I have ever had in my entire life. We are milkshake fiends in our family, so we have tasted milkshakes from all over the States and have been known to whip up a sweet, cold shake on late nights and lazy afternoons. However, in all my milkshake tasting years, I have never had one quite as delicious as the Pink Cadillac from the 66 Diner here in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The 66 Diner is an Albuquerque dining staple, a retro diner that embraces the golden era of the 1950s with whimsical, period-appropriate decor. The diner also celebrates U.S. Route 66, or the Main Street of America, the road that stretches from Chicago to Los Angeles and runs through Albuquerque. Perhaps it was dining in this adorable, whimsical, restaurant that made the milkshake so outstanding. It’s hard not to be transported to the past and swept up in the feeling of good times in this cute little diner.
But setting aside, I have never tasted a milkshake quite as amazing as this one. The Pink Cadillac (a decade appropriate name) was a blend of strawberry ice cream, oreo cookies, and whole milk, topped with the creamy perfection of whipped cream. I had never considered the combination of oreos and strawberry in a milkshake before, but boy am I glad the 66 Diner had. Perfectly sweet, velvety, and amazing, the combination yielded the most perfect milkshake.
So for all you other milkshake fiends looking to quell your thirst and your ‘50s nostalgia, I recommend a stop by 66 Diner in Albuquerque. The milkshakes are divine, and the food is great too!
