#FOOD-SAFETY-FACTS
Do you know what's in your food?
With all of the problems in our food system, it can be hard to find the information we need to make smart choices about the food we eat.
In food safety, how we handle, store and prepare our food matters alot. Food safety helps to prevent infection and make sure that our food keeps enough nutrients for us to have a healthy diet. Unsafe food and water can cause infections and diseases such as diarrhoea, meningitis etc. Unsafe food also can deteriorate and be of poor quality, which means they lose nutrients and so we do not get enough of what we need for a healthy diet. So Unsafe food can Lead to poor nutrition.
How important can food safety be to me, I hear you ask? Well, i'm going to tell you.
Did you know? Infections caused by contaminated food have a much bigger impact on population with poor or fragile health Status and that can easily Lead to serious illness or depth. For pregnant women, new born, older adults and people with weekend immune system and chronic illness including diabetes, kidney disease, Aids and some cancer patients. The consequences of food borne diseases are usually more severe and Maybe fatal.
Do you know? A large percentage of food poisoning cases could be eliminated if people washed their hands more often when preparing and handling food
Did you know? Millions of people fall victim of eating Unsafe food. Children particularly under 5 years of age are at risk to contaminated food. Diarrhoea diseases alone kill 1.5 million children, and most of these illness are attributed to contaminated food or drinking water. Proper food preparation can prevent most food borne diseases.
Did you know? That there's no real benefit to washing meat and poultry. The way to kill bacteria is to cook all meat, seafood and poultry to proper temperatures.
Did you know? When leftovers are not properly stored in airtight shallow containers for rapid cooling there is the spread of bacteria. Never allow leftovers to cool to room temperature before refridgerating them.
Did you know? The most common symptoms of food borne diseases are stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Do you know? Some harmful bacteria are becoming resistant to drug treatments. Overuse of antimicrobials in agriculture animal husbandry, is one of the factors leading to the emergence and spread of antimicrobials resistance. Antimicrobials - resistant bacteria in animals may be transmitted to humans via food.
Food safety is a shared responsibility. Everyone has a role to play.
It begins with you.

Safety first... the motto of the Federal Road Safety Commission.
Which is very applicable here. It starts with everyone and creating more awareness.
About letting left overs cool down before storing it maybe debated by me.
I can't put hot food in the freezer. Especially when i cool excess food stuff like soup. I need it to cool before freezing.
Can you enlighten me more on this?
Cheers
Dante is here, No fear

As cooked food drops to 60°C or below, bacteria that have survived the cooking will start to multiply until the food cools down to five degrees. The longer the food is left to cool, the longer the bacteria – which causes food poisoning – has to multiply. So it's always advisable to refrigerate before your cooked or your leftover food drops to 60°C.
Hope I've answered your question. Thanks
