Hello Steemit Family,
Vegetarians have always been considered a little crazy in their approaches and beliefs. The domestication and slaughter of animals for food the world over, was one of the great achievements of humankind.
Those who somehow shunned animal foods for religious reasons were tolerated. However most people thought that yo had to be some kind of nut to exclude such food on mere dietary grounds.
In recent years, however the meatless way of life has surged in popularity, largely because increasing evidence indicates that a sensible vegetarian diet is better for you than that of someone basically on meat. The following are some reasons why it is more healthier to be a vegetarian;
- To protect your heart. A comparative study of diet and heart disease in seven countries showed that the rate from coronary heart disease was highest in nations where the most animals products were consumed. eg, the Finns, Americans, etc In Japan where very little fat of any kind is eaten, the heart disease death rates is lower than in any other industrialized nation despite high rates of high blood pressure and cigarette smoking there. Animal proteins also contain higher levels of cholesterol for those eating meat, than those eating primarily vegetable protein.
- It helps you to control your weight and this is simply because the vegetarian diet is bulky and filling .
- To reduce the risk of cancer, research over the past decade suggests that a diet high in animal fats and cholesterol that may set the stage for heart disease may also contribute to the growth of cancers of the colon, breast and uterus. as such in countries where meat consumption is low these disease will relatively be uncommon.
Furthermore, a varieties of vegetable foods including Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, turnips, cabbage, spinach - can stimulate the production of anticancer enzymes in the body.
Uniquely, our omnivores nature being ( plant and animal -eating) anatomically equipment favors a diet that emphasizes plant foods.
Therefore, adapting the vegetarian approach to daily menu planning, you can greatly reduce your dependence on animal protein - especially on the high fat, high calorie meats, thus making vegetarians to have better health than non vegetarians etc.
As such we would all be better off if we stopped thinking of vegetables and grain as merely side dishes to embellish a chunk of meat or better still for those with average or low incomes.
Meals based on vegetables can provide sound nutrition for everyone.
