Yes I am a college kid, and yes that means I like ramen. I know I am better than this, but it is a guilty pleasure and a high stress day type of food for me. Above all other brands stands Saporro Ichiban. Now this isn't one of those microwave deals. I cannot stand them. This requires a saucepan, or at least some boiling water and trust me when I say it is well worth the time.
Broth
I prefer the original flavor, and the broth has a really mellow flavor. It has a miso + light beef stock flavor and it is just plain soothing in my eyes. I tend to add some Japanese rice seasoning mix and sriracha when I am feeling the heat. Otherwise it's mellow, lightly salty and relaxing.
Noodles
The noodles come in a dried brick and after cooking for about 3 minutes in boiling water break from the block and are done. They are not mushy, but are reliably cooked through. I have never over or under cooked my noodles when I did it on a timer, so expect consistent results. They are somewhat wavy and have a good way of staying on chopsticks or a fork. They are otherwise standard, dependable ramen noodles.
Where can they be found?
These can be purchases easily on Amazon or at a local Asian grocer like H-Mart (the best place ever). If you want them, you can easily find them.
Review: 8/10
My only complaints are that the broth is almost too mellow, and I wish the noodles were a little thicker. Other than that, there is nothing else I could possibly ask for!
