Curry powders and adulteration - true or false?

Curry powders! You must have heard of curries, especially if you are a foodie.

What makes curries tasty? The masalas or curry powders as known popularly. Experienced cooks and homemakers make their own curry powders at home.

It is simple, really. Just powder some dry spices like black pepper, fennel, cumin and the like and use it to flavor curries.

The problem arises when you are a working member of the family and you do not have the time to dry roast spices and store it after preparing the curry powder. The next available option is to buy small packets of curry powder readily available in stores all over the world. You read it right. It is available in many parts of the world.

Many people in Kerala are now accusing big names in the curry powder seller field of adulteration. The powders they claim contain even brick powder which is red in color that is being passed off as red chilly powder after mixing it with a small amount of the actual product. The powders are also said to contain harmful chemicals which could cause dreadful diseases.

Point to note - we can never be sure of anything that is not homemade. It is always best to consume foods that are prepared by people who are known for their integrity and who use homemade recipes and soups, dips and spice mixes. Another thing is to use your own spice mix by just grinding whatever you need, Simple as that.

Our forefathers never had access to global supermarkets but they were more healthy than all of us combined. They ate local produce, seasonal fruits locally grown and always spend time with friends and family and had more interaction with neighbors too unlike us who keep checking our mobiles rather than speak to the person sitting next to us in real life.
