- 1 small cup Moong Dal / Pesara Pappu
- 1 no Munakkaya / Drumstick
- 1 Big Onion finely chopped
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 2 Green Chillies chopped
- 1 sp chopped Garlic
- 1 /4 sp Turmeric Powder
- 1 sp Red Chilli Powder
- Salt to taste
- chopped Coriander Leaves
#Popu : - 1/2 sp Mustard Seeds
- 1/4 sp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Red Chilli
- 1 pinch Hing
- few Curry Leaves
- 2 sp Oil
#Procedure :
Wash drumstick well, cut into long pieces and keep aside. Wash moong dal well and soak in a cup of water for 10 mins, after soaking of ten mins, cook it on stove top for about 10 mins.
When moong dal is half cooked, add half chopped onions, drumstick pieces, chopped tomato and green chillies. Stir well and continue to cook until the drumstick pieces are soft. Stirring in between, then add turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt.
Mix well and cook the drumstick pieces along with the spices for another 4-5 mins on low-medium flame or till the dal is fully cooked. At the end, add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
Heat oil in a pan add popu ingredients and fry, once done add chopped garlic, remaining onion pieces and stir-fry on low heat until transparent.
When done take it away from the flame and pour the fried onions over the cooked drumstick dal and mix well. Now munakkaya pappu/drumstick dal is ready, serve hot with rice or roti. Drumstick dal is a very nutritious dish, it goes perfect with steamed rice and roti.
