World's First Robotic Kitchen: This Robot Chef Can Prepare 2,000 Gourmet Dishes For You!

in food •  7 years ago

Who loves to cook? Probably quite a few of you.
But who likes to eat without having to cook yourself? Probably EVERYONE if the food still tastes good!

What sounds (And looks) like an absolute science fiction gadget has become a reality: Meet Moley, the world's first fully automatic kitchen robot.

It's essentially a pair of robotic arms that can prepare over 100 different dishes from chefs worldwide!
It sounds too good to be true: you simply select which dish you want from the wide variety, set out the ingredients, and then let the robot work its magic.
Moley even cleans up after himself!

Watch the commercial here:

"Moley Robotics has created the world's first fully-automated and intelligent cooking robot. It learns recipes, cooks them and clears up after itself! It can mimic the actions of a master chef precisely, bringing a variety of delicious dishes, cooked to world-class standards to the domestic kitchen and other food preparation areas. The system comprises a full suite of appliances, cabinetry, safety features, computing and robotics."

-Moley Robotics

This is the cooking process:

The user can select a dish based on the type of cuisine, calorie count, ingredients, dietary restricitions cooking method, chef, etc.
Then, he gets the pre-packaged containers of specifically measured, washed and cut ingredients that have been ordered through Moley.
The ingredients are being placed on the designated spots, and with a single tap on the "start" button, Moley begins to cook.

How does it work?

Moley isn't actually just a pair of arms, it's an all-inclusive automatic system consisting of all needed appliances, utensils, cabinets, and a specifically created motion capture system.
It uses 20 different motors in its hands, 129 sensors and 24 joints to imitate human hands as closely as possible
In order for Moley to recreate the dishes of famous chefs, they need to prepare it in front of him wearing special gloves with sensors on them.

The robotic motion capture system then records each movement of the chef, making it possible for you to enjoy recipes from master chefs like Gordon Ramsay or Anthony Bourdain at home.

Dishes from any chef in the world:

Moley Robotics CEO Mark Oleynik stated that the robot could "cook anything like a human chef in motion" - and clean up the kitchen surface afterwards.
Since Moley can basically recreate any downloadable recipe, it will even include a "share and sell" option where people can upload and sell their own recipes to other users.

One of the over 100 pre-installed recipes is Tim Anderson's crab bisque, a particularly difficult recipe that requires a lot of experience and finesse.

Even the chef himself prepared the soup 5 times until he got it just right with the motion capture system.
But still, Oleynik is positive that the robot Moley can recreate it without a problem.

"I ran through the recipe five times, and then the programmers and technicians took the motions that I made and chose the smoothest and cleanest ones and spliced them together, fine-tuned them. So now you have a robot that will repeat my exact movements in a controlled way, every single time. It took a few tries for the robot to perfect its bisque technique, it made a few mistakes at first - but all chefs do. Now it's more or less foolproof. It makes a great bisque every time."

-Celebrity Chef Tim Anderson

Moley the fully automatic kitchen robot will cost about $90,000, and shipping starts next year.

By that time, Oleynik stated that Moley will probably be able to cook up to 2,000 dishes.

I'm excited to see this robot in action and I'm sure Mr. Gourmet would like to try one of these dishes and compare it to the works of an actual human chef!

Technology is booming soon the blockchain will take over the earth!!!! The robot industry is booming and will be taking many jobs; JESUS is Movin my our civilizations to space based and HE is Progressing us in these latter days like no other time on the earth!!!! Interesting days ahead; the global satanic technocrats want to merge humans with machines in their trans humanist movement.... but humanity is Rising by The Power of YHWH ELOHIYM to Defeat these satanic people!!!!

I'm so confused.

Yes I agree, technology should be used as a benefit for humanity - it's tempting and we should take care not to become hybrids with technology.
Of course robots are being sold to us as wonderful machines that make our lives easier, but we always have to take care that we don't lose the human inside of us.
This time we live in right now is very important, people are waking up, the spiritual community is growing.
It seems like you have a lot of knowledge to share that's great, you're very welcome to message me on steemit.chat so we can talk some more.

It's always important to stay aware and notice what's going on around you. Blockchain and cryptocurrency is on our side, it's giving the power back to the people and allowing us to live in a decentralized world, much less controlled by banks and governments.

I saw this kind of robots in Japan. Looks like more jobs to be replaced

They're really no better than people. They cook at the same speed as the chef that made the recipe. I see this more as a novelty than anything else. My guess is the people that could afford $90k for this chef could just hire a regular chef and get way more than just 100 recipes. Plus you still have to prep all the ingredients or buy the company's pre prepped stuff. It's nifty but won't be taking any chef jobs anytime soon.

Assuming the robot and the chef is at same speed, the robot can work longer hours and without salary. You probably need 90k per year to pay the chef, and the robot is 90k and it would work for many years.

Hey @allasyummyfood !!!
Have a look here. Hope you like this. This can earn freelancers and chefs with feature share and sell
Great innovation.

Can it make Pizza?

COOOOLLLLLL!!! I am planning to buy one like this with STEEM :D

Yes that would be awesome!

who build this kitchen?? i mean which country, ?

@caioasc vai segurando a tecnologia!!

Cool me ! image one those with Legs !

meep

That does not smell good for me @sirwinchester! Chefs will no longer be needed! OMG!
Cheers
@progressivechef

It could replace my wife!

Hmm, that sounds very interesting. I wonder how it washes its hands? I'd probably put some gloves on him just to be sure... You never know, a robot could be sneaky. ^.^

I think I like the idea about letting a robot do the Kitchen work. The technology is moving so fast that sooner or later even cars will be driven by robots. So lets wait till the robot is out in the market, we all will want to buy it.
Upvoted.

i liked very impressive post

Amazing technology ! But you loose all the pleasure of cooking ..

I enjoy cooking, so this wouldn't interest me for home. But I would love to go somewhere that I could compare the original (prepared by the chef) to the clone (prepared by Moley).

The risk here is ... other than imagination, there would be no need for chef's other than to simply create the recipes. More folks to the unemployment line.

Ha! Hard to believe this is for real, but in a city like New York I'm sure it would be a huge hit.

@sirwinchester - You just made my day! For a person like me whose cooking skills are limited to 2 minute cup noodles or boiling eggs, Moley seems to be a god send. A robot that can cook crab bisque - what more can a person wish for from Santa Clause for X-mas!. Only one little problem though - I am sure I would not be able to afford Moley unless I write about 100,000 posts on Steemit and earn Steem Dollars. LOL
Jokes apart - thanks for this great robotics update. I love robots and still build BEAM type of robots. Upvoted.

I am more into wildlife/travel blogs with a twist, with my original photos and musings about them. I am doing a 'Photospeak' series with my memories from Africa - with just a photo with minimal words - Letting the picture speak for itself mostly. I would be honored if you take a look at Photospeak #1: Man vs. Nature and Photospeak #2: African landscape when you have time and provide your comments. Thanks

Thanks for your comment!
Yes the price is a little high but I'm sure it will drop in a few years as robots become more and more mainstream.
Anyway, I just loved the innovation so I had to share it!

I have upvoted a few of your latest posts

Thank you so much for the response and taking time to visit my posts. It is an honor that will encourage me for even better blogs.

That is some cool tech @sirwinchester. Nice post

Awesome thats what technology is all about.

Yes it's crazy to see how fast it is progressing!

Mind blowing! Guess we don't need humans anymore.

I would be happy to have a robot to cook for me. Lets heap up steems for that purpose :) thanks for sharing. followed

Thank you, much appreciated!

You're welcome. Followed ya

give me one

Another one reason not to get married)))

It looks cool , but it is not good ... just think why.

What if a utensil is just out of the robot's reach?

Crazy unbelievable! Resteemed!

I like to see stories like this displaying the creative side of man. It seems we are moving in the direction of automation of some human activities, I see it as we are at the beginning of a new era of discovery with a lot more to come.

Well, guess I'm about out of a job LoL
This has been coming for a while though, the fast food industry & many other parts of the commercial food industry have been dying for a chance to automate. Just like the auto industry, the less workers you have to pay the better your profit margin. I do believe that true artisans will still be sought out over automatons because it is a craft & an art with personality that robots cannot reproduce...What we really need is to get 3D printers to work on the molecular level so we can make replicators a reality, "earl grey tea, hot, please"
