To Feel Real Korea with Traditional Food : Soon Dae Guk Bab

in food •  7 years ago

Each country has it’s own characteristic food. Sometimes it is amazing when I find out the ways of cooking with one material.

In this posting, I’d like to introduce the Soon Dae Guk Bab. This food is made with the intestines of pork.

In Europe, the sausage might be a representative food made with Pork.

I don’t know why making sausage was not developed in korea.
In Korea a boiling skill was developed specially in comparing to other area.

There are so many boiling foods in Korea, and this time I’d like to post the Soon Dae Guk Bab

I had been riding around the Byeong Cheon city located in Middle area of Korea not far from my office. I dropped by the Byrong Cheon Area to taste the Soon Dae Gook Bad which was a representative food in this area.

This food was originated for the tradesmen in this area. It was said that there was a big market place. So people came here early to buy goods and left to sell. They needed cheap and nutritious food. The intestines of pork was considered as a proper for them.

The intestines of pork was widely used in Korea. But there existed some differences between South and North. The Cheon Soon Dae Guk Bab is the representative in Southern Area. Actually Soon Dae was more famous in Northern Area.

But unfortunately we can not get to the North Korea due to the political reasons. As you know, North Korea is the most notorious closed country. If you want to taste the original Soon Dae Guk Bab, you would bet your life instead.

During Korean War, many people came into South Korea as the refuges. So you could taste the North Korean Soon Die. But many people came from north told me that the taste was not as exactly same as that of north area. But when I have a chance to taste North Korea Soon Dae Guk Bab, I will post.

Beong Cheon Soon Dae Guk Bab was served as below.

They put rice and blood with some spices into the intestines and cooked.

They served a soup. The secret of this food was the soup. It is not easy to make that soup.
They have boiled the bones for 24 hours to get the white soup.

Of course there are more materials put in the soup while boiling.

You need to put the ground perilla seeds in the soup.

The shrimp sauce was a essential for the Pork in Korea.

It was said that the shrimp salted sauce was inevitable to have the pork to prevent the problems.

It tasted really nice.

There were full of people in the restaurant.

I’ like recommend the Soon Dae Guk Bab to feel real Korea when you visit Korea.

But one thing you need to mind is sitting position, for some one it could be a torture sitting crossing two legs.

Korea traditional eating is good, in mactan Cebu Philippines Korean people are building restaurant business corporate or non corporate I work their for 8 months but I wonder why they did not made this menu here in Philippines.

I'd try alot of Korean food, specially their delicious appetizer, dongte tang is my favorite dish :)

It needs a special skill to make that kinds of traditional food which is absolutely secret.

oww..that kind of food are exciting to eat, wish I could explore and taste that kind of special food.

i love philiphins

You do?
I do.

My life philosophy is that foods are the source to get the love spread. Experiencing food from the different culture and being respectful of their creation is the best way to kickstart your interest toward cultural interest and be more acceptance in life.

I absolutely love and extremely impressed of the way that you're flexible and adaptive towards many cultures and being adventurous to try new things. This is definitely inspiring and motivated me to expand my travels and hopefully to Korea one day too! Btw, I am a food and travel blogger. If you like, you can check me out for food or any travel ideas.

gotta get some of that kim chi and eat it with kim

You are so adept at bringing cultural education through food and tidbits of local tradition. Wonderful. I have to say your pictures make it look appetizing but this particular dish looks too difficult to reproduce. Just have to get to Korea for the real thing!

Dear @slowwalker. With the development of information technology and the greater opportunity to travel to cuisines from different countries, they fell in love with the outside. And we often eat Italian pizza, Japanese sushi, Chinese rice noodles, French croissants, and more. But the native cuisine leaves a deep mark in the heart since childhood and is something more than just food. This is a culture. It was interesting to see the dishes of your country.

thank you so much for your comment

wow, amazing. it looking yummy.yes, you are right, every country has its own way and techniques of cooking foods. in our country, i like the rice too much. and we using vegetables and beefs in our dashes too much.

One of my friend and he asked me to send names of some places where there is Halal food.

i like tradisional foods :)

yes this is the difference of our typical food ... I really like the same rendang duck

Looks delicious! ... At first I thought in the second picture on the left side I had spotted some tofu, but now I think it must be something else ... :)

@slowwalker nim, I hope you're having a Happy 2018

among all the Korean food this is one I wouldn't even dare touching
cause of the blood, I don't eat anything with blood in it because in Science some studies claim that the animals know they'll be put to death so they sort of panic before they even get butchered specially pigs, thisis with pig's blood isn't it? Once the animal panics it sends toxin to its blood that's what I was taught in the University so I'd never eat that because of the possibility of eating toxin but I could imagine that it must taste good cause a friend of mine could finish a platter full of that

I didn't know that before. Thank you.
Anyway I like it

it's alright @slowwalker nim
I'm trying to reach you in the chat but I guess you're not staying there?

Cool food I must try this :))

You have to, lol

Yes... :))

I just posted a Korean food blog as well. It is by far one of my fave cuisine

nice try

I have tasted many Korean dishes, and I love them. However I've never tasted intestines before, I'm a little scared. I love the korean tradition of removing shoes though. Keeps places clean. Very nice post.

We call that blood sausage here. A bit different but I guess in a way very similar.

Restaurant full of people is the best recommendation that food is good in this place :)

The food looks so delicious

yes

you really like the same pork ya friend

hahahs

kok laugh kawan .. if you have time to visit my blog is my friends .. I really need your help friend

This looks interesting. In Austria, we also have a dish that is made of blood - but then we add meat, bacon, and white bread and make a sausage out of it. (We even call it blood sausage.)

Wow
You are amazing

Those foods look bomb.😍 I also miss ramen soup noodles and kimshi.

It means that you are Korean

No, but I used to eat Korean food in Philippines, but in Europe sometimes not always easy to find.

seems like delicious..sir don't koreans eat sausages?

Why not?
Koreans eat eveything

Wow~ My favorite food !! I really miss it ~

lol

Wow in your own discription, i can taste that this food is really delicious.. I wanna try some 😋 . but im too far from korea 🤔 . maybe someday if i have chance, i will try. i wont forget this food.. I must try this. 😊😊

Someday You will visit Korea

I am interested to learn about Korean food because my dear daughter in law is from Korea. We Texans don't usually eat things boiled; we like fried foods. People used to eat a lot of pig intestines here, but they fried it.

Im from Texas and I love boiled food!! Haha

@normalbro No way! What boiled food do you like? The only things I can think of are boiled greens, and dumplings - Yum I love both of those. Hey, I think I like boiled food too! But I have to tell you, my son-in-law is Burmese, and the last boiled food I saw was at a party at his house - squares of boiled pig skin. Pig skin, my friend. They coulda fried it. But no. Boiled.

Haha I was actually gonna say boiled greens. But it wasnt until I came korea then I started eating alot of boiled meat, boiled chicken etc. As for fried pig skins.... I never was and I never will be a fan

Chicharrones, baby! Yum, yum. LOL. But I need to get used to more boiled food, so I can enjoy my visit to Korea better. I think I will get healthier and skinnier if I can eat their way for a little while.

I heard that the boiled food is better than the fried in health

I'm pretty sure it is. We Texans are notorious for being fat and relatively unhealthy. When my grandparents were working on the farm from sunup to sundown, they needed the extra calories. But now, we eat the same way but work a lot less! My granny's favorite meal was fatback, breaded and fried. Now that is some high-energy food! And it fueled a whole lot of heavy labor!

interesting and good foods. I trust u for the taste

absolutely

I'm not sure because it doesn't look very good to me but people seem to like much the food in that restaurant. Maybe it taste good after all.

Look so great..
I am sure is so delicious..
I will search for a Koreian resturant here in Romania to taste the original Soon Dae Guk Bab,

It's cool how the Koreans fix food. Like other distinct ethnic/racial groups, they have their own distinct dishes and customs. It's fascinating to me to see this - especially like a highly intelligent people like Koreans.

Thanks for sharing this unique food/dish. Eye-opening !
What is the meaning of Soon Dae Guk Bab ?
