One of my absolute favourite dishes!
Might I disagree with its origin, however :P It's originally a Persian dish, and "biryani" comes from "biryan", which means "fried".
It's quite a debated dish, in terms of origin, but most say it reached India through the the Mughals (a Persianised Turkic people).
