The Food Sharing concept is not new but has gained adepts with internet and social networks.
Supermarkets have a closing time and deposit the waste in containers that are mostly left open. Many Food-sharers go in the middle of the night in Switzerland, Germany or France to these containers and find food in excellent state to be consumed.
The Case in France
As of July 2016 supermarkets in France need to send surplus groceries to charities.
The idea is to cut food waste by 2025 and create millions more meals for the people that need it.
Food Sharing in Germany
Thousands of committed people are for the end of the food waste.
Foodsharing is an initiative to organize food safes and ambassadors, to save food from foodstuffs of all kinds, to promote the internationalization of foodsharing, to organize events on the topic and much more.
The foodsharing platform is 100% based on voluntary and free-of-charge commitment. A nationwide organization of 30 people has developed, improved and implemented the concept over many years.
Just like the concept of food rests, the platform is also open source and free.
