Italy is known all over the world for many things: culture, fashion, art, but above all food.
It is pretty impossible to find something you don't like here.
One of my favourite dishes is fresh, juicy, Mozzarella cheese.
It is a kind of cheese made with cow milk, a certian kind of cow called "Bufala".
It is delicious fresh eaten, with a slice of fresh bread and some tomatos: in this occasion the dish is called "caprese".
Today I'm posting another kind of recipe, a typical recipe from my family tradition, la mozzarella in carrozza!
This dish is usually made with the mozzarella leftovers, after a couple of days from when you've bought it.
Indeed, you MUST eat mozzarella freshly made. If it remains, you can use it to cook, as in the following recipe!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 egg
- 2 round, fresh Mozzarelle
- 4 slices of bread
- some parmigiano cheese
- basil
- salt and pepper
- frying oil
How to
It is a really easy recipe: just cut the mozzarella into slices, not too thin.
then put one or two slices of mozzarella with a basil leave between two bread slices.
put the egg into a bowl and mix it with parmigiano cheese, salt and pepper
put the mozzarella sandwich into the eggs mixture
Put the oil into a pan. When the oil is ready, start frying the sandwiches until gold on both sides.
Put the Mozzarella in carrozza on a plate and cut it in half to obtain small triangles.
Open a cold beer and enjoy your lovely "Mozzarella in carrozza"!
