The Latin word for persimmon means "food of the Gods," and that's my type of fruit! Persimmons are tomato like in appearance and pack a tangy sweet taste. They are orange or red-brown and is the national fruit of Japan where it originates from.

Health benefits of eating persimmons are high in fiber, pack large amounts of vitamins A, B & C. It's an excellent source of manganese, antioxidants, phytonutrients & flavonoids. Persimmons are high in fructose so it's always wise to consume in moderation.

I always bring a lot back with me from Japan, individually sealed so chances are high of them making it back home. My whole family loves them and like them with the peel, instead of peeling them. The persimmon peel itself is packed with more large amounts of healthy goodness so I don't mind just cutting them up into slices for the grandbabies.
