Fountains, Squares, Tourists... and A Local Italian Friend!
Go visit it all. After a full day of exploring, I had mixed feelings about Rome. I loved the history and views but visiting during the summer, I felt like I wasn't getting that immersion in culture I want while traveling. All the Romans seem to have gone on Holiday and I was in a crowd full of people not from the city. (I haven't seen so many Americans in one place during my journey than I have in Italy.) it's hectic in August! Next time I come back, it'll be during off season.
BUT Luckily, I have my dear Italian local friend, Matteo with me which has saved that authenticity. It just comes to show how kindness can come back full circle as we met in Vegas. He's been an amazing guide as Rome is his home and being with someone who speaks Italian is so helpful - gets rid of all the guys who try to sell you selfie sticks and waters on the streets! Best part? Highly recommend you rent a Vespa to get around haha
So here were Day 1 highlights! Not going to tag actual locations... just know, 1. Rome has to be explored correctly in multiply days! There are so many sights, landmarks, and areas to discover. And 2. I felt like I was back in Vegas at Caesars Palace Hotel/Forum Shops LOL
Happy Traveling,
