Carbohydrates are organic compounds. Vastly present in Food items. These are compounds which are made up of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. The general formula for Carbohydrates is CH2O. Carbohydrates are most common source of energy for everyone. The present Hydrocarbon is basic source of energy.
Carbohydrates are divided in two major groups:
Simple Carbohydrates: These contains two small groups;
Mono-saccharide: The smallest group of carbohydrates which cannot be more hydrolyzed is known as mono-saccharides. LIke glucose, Fructose
Di-Saccharide: When two mono-saccharides joined together they form di-saccharides. Like Sucrose (common sugar), Lactose Milk Sugar
These two sub-classes are which we use as sweetening agents. Only these can give us sweet taste. Because we can only taste on our tongue.
Complex/ Compound Carbohydrates: These also contains two groups;
Oligo-saccharise: When three to ten mono-saccharides joined together they form oligo-saccharides. Like Raffinose
Polysaccharide: When more than ten mono-saccharides joined together they form polysaccharides. Like starch.
These poly or oligosacchrides can give us taste as our taste buds are present on the tongue and these saccharides cannot yield or will not give us energy on tongue. These will be digested in the stomach and then will provide us energy.
While mono and di-saccharides will be absorbed in the body and will provide us energy on the tongue. Thats why Doctors recommend to use Glucose or Sucrose when someone is week or sugar level is low.
