Total Soluble Solids

Total Soluble Solids are solids in a liquid that provides us sweetness. These are basically sugars. Sugars are carbohydrates. here is a procedure to measure Total Soluble Solids in a solution.

Principle: Light is passed through the sample present on lid. The solids present in sample refract the light which is noted from eyepiece.

Procedure:
• Wash the refractometer prism with distilled water and dry it with tissue paper.
• Place a few drops on the prism and turn it towards light.
• Note the reading through eyepiece.
• The reading displayed on the scale is the amount of TSS present in solution.
