Christmas Eve Dinner: All About Those Tamales!

Christmas is a time for giving gifts, festive decorations, and tamales.

Tamales are the meat filled steamy goodness that make this cold season feel so much warmer and tasty. Usually they are wrapped in corn husks, but this year they were Salvadorian style and wrapped in banana leaves.

Since they were wrapped in banana leaves, they were much larger than the usual corn husk wrapped ones. One of them even had a whole chicken leg inside it, bone and all!

There was also some hot holiday fruit punch, with peanuts in it too. It also had chunks of sugar cane in it to sweeten it, as well as some honey(?). I’m not sure what all was in it, but it was a good warming drink.

There was also some classic posole verde, with all the fixings. Sliced radishes, diced onions, shredded lettuce and cabbage, lime, and salsa were on the table to go along with the hearty soup.
