Pink Travels #3: Gems and must eats in beautiful Vietnam

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi Steemers! Vietnam is not only beautiful, the food is amazing. And if you're a foodie like me, you will love it! The food in Vietnam is world famous, but you should have an idea what to look for in particular. I usually visit Vietnam once every 3 years, but last year was the first time in 24 years we went with the entire family and it was food heaven. We had great laughter over so many meals and you should too when you visit Vietnam. Here are my top four must eats!

#Banh mi shops
The French are possibly the most renowned for their breads, so as a former French colony, the Vietnamese know how to make amazing sandwiches as well. In any town or city you go to in Vietnam you can find food stalls with the best sandwiches. Usually with grilled meats, fresh lettuce and coriander.

#Cafe sua da
The Vietnamese are the 2nd largest coffee producer in the world, so it goes to say they know a thing or two about drinking coffee. In western countries we are used to drinking our coffee lattés with creamed milk. Little do we know there is a much better ingredient to enrich our favorite coffee tastes with: condensed milk. They filter their coffee with a practical little tool which released drops of hot coffee slowly in your glass, with a layer of condensed milk on the bottom. Once the glass is filled, it is stirred and then poured into a glass full of ice. There is no purer taste of coffee than in Vietnam.

#Banh Xèo
When I first took my +1 to Vietnam, he had never tasted banh xèo before. When we went to eat it with the entire family before we started a karaoke night (which, by the way, you should definitely try as well, Vietnamese are great singers thanks to their tone rich language), we went to a tiny local Vietnamese restaurant. We ordered banh xèo for the entire table, which is the Vietnamese version of pancakes, made of rice flour, water and turmeric powder. Naturally it is filled with our favorite veggies, and meats or sea foods, which you dip in one of our typical Vietnamese sauces. My beloved never forgave me that I hadn’t introduced him to this delicacy earlier.

#Pho
Of course I cannot leave out Pho from the list, which is the national dish of Vietnam. Especially in the north of Vietnam they are specialized in the dish. This is a soup made of beef broth, garnered with coriander, anise, onion, cardamom, peppers and other small ingredients, with usually oxtails, beef bones and steak, and noodles. Of course the ingredients may vary. Usually you have a hoicin sriracha sauce on the side as well for the dipping the meats. The quality of the pho is highly dependent on the duration; the best phos are usually prepared from 6-10 hours to several days in advance, to ensure the marrow in the bones are dissolved in the water

Vietnamese food is my favorite food from all my years of living and traveling in Asia! All those amazing flavors!!!! Also, I have 2 of the Vietnamese coffee filters - I've tried making it so many times but it never turns out like in Vietnam :(

I have the same feeling, at home I succeed at times, but it's very hard to balance the taste, since it can be very strong! but it works to start with the condensed milk on the bottom, and then drip the coffee. once its finished you can taste whether its too strong or not and then soften it a bit if necessary with a bit of extra water in the filter again. :)

I found this post just before lunch time lol munchies intensifies, great post I may try to do Pho that looked delicious!

Oh I totally get you haha! When hungry, and you find food pictures, it's even worse! I love pho, I can eat it all day. Have you had it before?

The Vietnamese food looks soo good!! :D
and the coffee picture I'm a big fan, I understand why they are so known for their coffee! :)

Did you had Vietamese coffee before? I love it! It's so good! thanks for dropping by!

I really like Banh Mi Op La, the French bread style egg sandwich, and my 2nd favorite might be the coffee. I am a fan of all 4 of these items here and others as well.

The banh mi was the banh mi dac biet to be exactly, my fav :). But I can see you are a pro, so no need tot tell you what's inside! Vietnamese ice coffee to me is really the best. But I love all dishes from Vietnam.
