THRIVE MARKET: The Conscious Costco

in food •  8 years ago  (edited)

A conscious business model working for people and fighting big business. The things I didn't know at first.
(Feel free to skip to the conclusion, that my favorite part.)

Disclaimer: Thrive Market was co-founded by someone I know in my hometown Ojai, CA. I am happy to be affiliated with this company after watching it grow for some time. It is actually the only affiliate program I have actively pursued. I plan to POWER UP with any Affiliate money!!!

Thrive Market is a membership-based company that offers incredible saving on favorite Organic & Non-GMO brands. They diligently select quality products which undergo a strict screening process as I found out trying to sell my flax crackers there. I still have some work to do in that area of my life.

They use the phrase "food desert" in their Thrive Gives marketing campaign. It is a program that gifts 1 Free Membership to a low-income family in need who live in areas where natural food is nowhere to be found.

"Thrive Market can help change this. That’s why we’ve committed to giving a free membership to a low-income family for every paid member who joins Thrive." - Thrive Market

When government fails us it is pretty awesome to see companies like this step up to help out. Thrive Market give access to over 2,500 counting products at 25-50% discount.

In just a few orders you can make back you members fee, while at the same time you get to give a gift to a family in need. If you don't make your membership back they will credit the difference to your account with their guaranteed savings program when you renew.

Now how can a big business like Thrive Market be fighting big business?

Well, they believe in transparency, so when the big producer of GMO food product wanted to pass legislation on "confusing" food labeling they took a stand and spread awareness. I personally would not of know fo this bill being passed that would allow companies to obscure their GMO-laden products with a simple QR code.
This clearly means made with GMO right?
The bill's nickname is the DARK (Denying Americans the Right to Know) Act.

I am glad to see the success of this company and I hope more companies will follow and expand upon Thrive Market's model of giving back and fighting for what's right. Now if they would only start accepting Crypto!

Free Memberships Include: Teachers, Students, Low-Income Families, Veterans, First Responders.

First my affiliate links and then a conclusion of my vision for the future

Conclusion: Online stores are the way of the future. Sadly they do eliminate many of the brick and motor shops, but this type of specialization eliminates so many inefficiencies that come from making products available in every store. I know this community is big on decentralization as am I but in certain areas centralization makes sense. Think about all the waste food that is over produced only to be thrown out just so that it will be available to buy. With these online megastores, we will be able to better predict the supply in order to eliminate waste. Then there are all the delivery trucks and peoples' cars driving to and from each store using gas. Each store must also use electricity to light up the store, run all the machines, keep products cool displaying them in a marketable way. All of these little things add up to enormous amounts of wasted energy. What about all the jobs?
Take a cue from @federicopistono robots are going to steal our jobs and that is ok.
We are heading toward a time when unemployment is going to skyrocket and a certain group of people will have no hireable skill to make a living on. That is why we must support the companies that give back, and encourage them to give back more!

Finally I'll say it once more I plan to POWER UP with any Affiliate money!!!

I placed an order through Thrive Market and I loved it. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough to cover the membership fee, which is very reasonable, but it is a luxury to me at this point so, I had to cancel my membership. I enjoyed your post and wasn't aware Thrive Market, offers free membership to students, which I will be looking into.

Also there is the fee guarantee. If you renew you would get your savings you didn't earn in credit.
