An Abundance of Organic Tomatoes And Cucumbers From The PolyTunnel :)

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Another bunch of homegrown produce from my garden polytunnel! Success!! Today it's a selection of different forms of tomato and cucumber - Some heirloom and some not, but all totally 100% organically grown.

One of the benefits of growing in a polytunnel is that it is possible to more carefully choose what chemicals enter the growing environment and for me that means that all that goes in are non-synthetic, natural minerals, filtered water, sunlight, a few insects, air and love!

You can see that one of the big tomatoes is a rippled kind - that is the heirloom variety that I deliberately planted this year and it is from bio-dynamically grown seeds, so I am excited to test it out. The rest of the tomatoes are a mixture of kinds from local sources - plus the cherry variety 'vitorria' which were grown from seeds taken from fruits bought from a major supermarket.

The cucumbers are all heirloom varieties, including the unusual white/yellow type.. I left these ones to grow a bit too long, so their colour has gone darker than I prefer.. but they are still great tasting and much livelier and tastier than supermarket equivalents.

Soon it will be time to clear out the plants these came from and start planting to some more leafy greens in there. :)

Wishing you well,
Ura Soul

Thanks for imparting your knowledge in public. Great article dear!

This remind all of us that we must have at least a small garden at our home to grow our veggie, thanks for sharing this. 💐

You are welcome! Community gardens are also great!

wow. thats a lot of produce! well done! im going to build a tunnel shortly in my garden, so it should be very exciting to see what comes out..thanks for sharing

Thanks - There's still a lot in there. Once the tunnel is set up with irrigation you only need go in there a few minutes per day and the rest takes care of itself :)

Yummy looking food! I need to start a garden again because that

Go for it! It's a choice to support life :)

This is great, the best produce is the organic one, I cannot even eat the market vegetables anymore!

Definitely, they have a higher nutrition level so we eat less and get healthier :)

Those look scrumptious.

How about a pic of the polytunnel?
What is your latitude and seasonal variation?

I'm located at the East of England. I posted about the polytunnel a while ago, here: https://steemit.com/freedom/@ura-soul/my-guide-to-building-a-low-cost-garden-polytunnel-to-grow-more-organic-food-all-year-round

What is a polytunnel?
