What do you eat breakfast?

As a good Venezuelan, I usually eat arepa. Arepa is a very traditional food in Venezuela made from pre-cooked cornmeal dough, circular and flattened. Due to the migratory masses of Venezuelans to other countries in recent years (because of the dictatorship) it has spread widely and is such a complete and versatile food that it has a great acceptance on the palate of any diner.

They can be found in two presentations: sweet and savory. Sweet arepitas usually consume more than anything for snacks, while savory foods are mostly consumed at breakfast and dinner.

A sweet arepa is usually accompanied by sirop, butter and white cheese. A salty arepa you can fill it with almost anything: meat, beens, salads, deli...

Depending on the filling, some received funny names, usually and traditionally, the most quoted are: La Domino (with black beans and white cheese), La Pelúa (Furry) (with shredded meat and grated yellow cheese), La Catira (The Blonde), Furry's sister (with stewed chicken and grated yellow cheese), La Rompe Colchón (Mattress Breaker) (according to aphrodisiac, with seafood), De Perico (Parakeet) (with scrambled eggs), De Pabellón (With black beans, fried plantain, shredded meat), La Gringa or Musiúa (Stuffed just like a hamburger), La Rumbera, typical of Christmas parties, stuffed with leftover pernil and grated yellow cheese... and My favorite is the Pepiada Queen, one of the most famous. It receives its name in honor of the Venezuelan Miss World Susana Duim (1955). Its filling is chicken or hen, with mayonnaise and avocado.

In 2015, the Venezuelan arepa took first place in the best breakfasts worldwide, in a ranking prepared by the renowned Thrillist blog, specializing in international travel, food and drinks ... So, if you ask me "what do you eat for breakfast? I'll have to proudly say that I eat the best breakfast in the world.

I had forgotten about arepas! Thanks for the reminder :>)
Discovered them during my six month stay on El Hierro, Canary Islands ( 2016-17 ) and loved their taste. I used to eat them either in the Venezolan restaurant out there or buy and take them with me on a hike on one of the islands hundred of (inactive) volcanoes. Man, they were amazing!

I used to breakfast with yoghurt, oatmeal, fruit, honey and grated coconut but, since a week and a half, I'm eating vegan - as mentioned in my last post - so no yoghurt nor honey. I am merely eating a banana and drinking coffee for breakfast or toast with peanutbutter.

Un abrazo desde Holanda!

never had anything like that before - looks pretty good though :)

Nice cake.
