Halo halo for the warm weather
Summer had started here in the Philippines although the weather had been changing lately. Although it is the summer season there are days when it is colder in the morning. Unlike before you start and end your day hot and humid. I thought it would be now the right time to prepare a Filipino favorite cold dessert. We call this halo halo which means an assortment of different things and in this dessert you can put any topping that you like. Sweetened fruit or yams, beans and many more. To make it special add a leche flan on top or ice cream.

pinipig on top
Today I put out the ice crasher and bought a few small blocks of ice from the sari sari store. With the ice crasher it is now easy and quick to make ice shavings. Unlike before we use a small ice shaver and we had to shave the ice manually which is very time consuming and tiring. If you are not efficient the ice might have already melted even before making a decent heap. The topping shown here is called pinipig which is a kind of rice that is crisped up and puffed.

sweetened purple sweet potato at the bottom
I sweetened some sweet potatoes and brown beans. Boiled them and added water that is how easy it is. Denser bits stay at the bottom and as you scoop along you will get the best part at the bottom.
