Almost 2021, Time to Open our Survival Food!
As we watch the world falling apart, what better time to begin practicing eating a military issued MRE (Meal Ready to Eat).
Today, I have selected Menu 20, Spaghetti with Beef and Sauce
Let's peak inside!
Warfighter Approved
I'm so excited to find out what's inside! Let's unbox this meal!
Our Main Dish.
Ingredients look decent enough.
Multigrain Snack Bread: it's the bread that never spoils!
Pretzel sticks! Yum!
Cheese Spread? This is getting better and better!
Dried Cranberries, Another win!
Orange Flavored NO Fruit Juice
They even included sour Skittles!
Let's Make Some Meal Ready to EAT!
Let's begin with the "orange drink". Looks like TANG!
It's about what I expected, it's orange powder drink.
Let's try heating up our meal in the field.
I open the cardboard container and inside is a large pouch, perfect for heating.
A little bit of water and it heats up FAST! Stinky too.
Heating it up in the cardboard makes it easier to handle.
Oh, delicious... really. It's not Chef Boyardee.
Side Dishes
Let's check out this cheese sauce!
I melted the cheese in the microwave for a few seconds.
Pretzels and cheese. Not bad!
Dried Cranberries.
Orange Drink NOT Fruit Juice
Let's add some instant coffee with sugar and creamer! Warfighter approved!
The Skittles were not in good shape.
The Meal Ready to Eat!
Multigrain bread, Spicy Pepper Sauce and Spaghetti!
The Meal All Together.
Review
The Experience
I enjoyed the experience of putting this meal together. I'm always impressed with the thoughtfulness of what's included in an MRE. They give you wet-wipes, paper napkins, book of matches, instant coffee, sugar and creamer (for the coffee). Nice addition is the spicy sauce, the skittles and they even included chicklet gum!
The Food
The food was surprisingly filling, I shared the meal with my children and they all nibbled away at it. If I tried eating this alone, I'm not sure I'd be able to finish it all. There are a LOT of calories here.
The Taste
The main dish was decent - it reminded me of canned spaghetti. I wasn't able to heat it up successfully in the bag, so I warmed it up in the Microwave. I tried the hot sauce and it was very enjoyable. The flavor of the peppers really came through and it worked with the spaghetti.
We enjoyed the pretzels and cheese sauce, the children gobbled that up quickly. The cranberries were tasty, not too tart or sweet.
The orange drink was what I was expecting. Tangy and orangy. My girls had never tried anything like it, they highly approved.
I had low expectations for the instant coffee, but it wasn't too bad with the sugar and creamer. I didn't even try it black, even though that's how I drink my (fresh) coffee. If I were out in the field and it was cold, this would be a refreshing hot drink.
The bread was surprisingly yummy. I was expected it to be very dry, but it was moist. I also expected it to be tasteless, but it was sweet! How they are able to keep this bread fresh for over a decade is beyond me. I don't know if it's healthy, but it sure tasted good. Paired perfectly with the spaghetti. No jam needed, but it would be a nice touch.
The Skittles were completely melted into a sticky mess. They tasted fine, but messy and ultimately a disaster.
The chicklet gum, I figured this would be a nice completion to the meal. I thought white chicklet gum would be mint, but it was cinnamon. I did NOT like the gum, it had a funny taste on the outer shell and no taste on the inside. It was a total dud.
The Rating
I would give this meal 4 out of 5 Stars.
Bless the Most High!
Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations. Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.
