Food photography: Rambutan, small, red-spiked fruit

Rambutan is a tropical fruit, which is grown in tropical locations and it originated in Southeast Asia, but it's also grown in Mexico.
I love its vibrant colors, texture and that extra sweetness. You just rip off the red peel and inside, there is a soft, chewy, very sweet fruit surrounding a little almond-like seed.

It’s also called superfruit, because of great health benefits and richness in calcium, which is, for example, good for hydration of skin, gloss of hair, boosting your immunity and preventing some diseases.

They are most often eaten fresh as a snack or sweet treat, but they also taste great as frozen and blended into a sorbet or ice-cream.

Fun Fact:
The flexible hair that give the fruit its name “Rambut” means "hair" in the Malay language... who would have said it?! ;)
