Had a wonderful holiday touring Central America in March this year.
Mexico, Belize and Guatemala were the countries we visited.
The variety of activities ranging from old Mayan ruins, swimming in fresh and seawater locations, caving, great night life and colourful markets make for an interesting as well as exciting holiday. Our transport included private vehicles, public buses and sea taxis. We mainly stayed in hotels but spent a night in Guatemala with a local family. It was an experience never to be forgotten sitting around a small kitchen table with 10 of the extended family enjoying a simple meal with everyone and not understanding a word being said. We managed with sign language and the son in law who had a smattering of English.
We found the people friendly and welcoming and our tour leader Pedro helped us really enjoy the experience.

What a great route! I went that exact way in 2012. When you cross the border at Chetumal into Belize, remember "Three nights, Caye Caulker, No"

When you get to Antigua ask around for a guide called Roberto (AKA Guatemala's Captain Jack Sparrow), he will take you on a walking tour through the catacombs of Antigua and to some amazing parts of the town.
