#food photography - Easter cake (Paska)

Paska is a ritual sweet bread which people bake in Ukraine for Easter. There is a belief that the tradition of sanctifying bread during the Easter Liturgy was begun by the apostles. As a sign of the invisible presence among them, the Savior, they left a empty place for the table during the meal and placed a bread in front of him (in Greek - "artos"). It is believed that paska is the home equivalent of artosa, which still remains one of the most ancient symbols of the Resurrection of Christ.

Паска — обрядовий солодкий хліб, який печуть в Україні на Великдень. Існує повір'я, що традицію освячувати хліб під час великодньої Літургії започаткували ще апостоли. На знак незримої присутності серед них Спасителя вони залишали за столом під час трапези вільне місце і клали перед ним хліб (грецькою — «артос»). Вважається , що паска — це і є домашній еквівалент артоса, що досі залишається одним із найдавніших символів Воскресіння Христового. [джерело]
