Review: “Burger-Øl” in Frederiksværk, Denmark

in foodreview •  6 years ago  (edited)

In an old, restored farmhouse close to one of the many roundabouts in Frederiksværk, a medium sized city in the northern part of Zealand (Sjælland), “Øl-Burger” offers their culinarie services to the public.

The place is clean and spartan in its interior, and looks inviting in its simple expression. The restaurant area is placed only on the ground floor and we were slightly disappointed that the stairway to the second floor, was not open. There could possibly be a nice view over the surrounding landscape.

We ordered a couple of lunch burgers and my daughter had a soda while I chose a Lottrup Red Copper Ale, from the cooling cubboard.

The service was quick and effective, though I downgraded the proposed midsize soda to a small one. We found a nice little table at the far end and within 10 minutes the meals were ready.

The plate was impressive but not overly flamboyant. There were both potato chips and nachos, which we both felt were a bit too much. The potatos were clearly the best and had a crispy feel while a soft and tasty inside (just like they should have, as by daughter said). They had a good seasoning too.

The beer was nicely tempered and seemed like a fairly good choice for this meal. I did go for a safe and low alc choice as I was driving today. I wont hold that against the beer. Perhaps an IPA would have been a more challenging combo as the sweetness of the ale can be a difficult partner for some types of food.

The best aspect of the burger was the general combination of ingredients, that seem to have been specially selected and not just thrown in. The bun was the rough kind while the salad has a clear bitter and crispy touch that went well with the well seasoned and sizable beef. Luckily only a small amount of dressing was used, so that it was not flowing everywhere when you dig in.

We both felt it was a very worthwhile experience and would certainly stop by another time, if we come around these parts again. A recommended restaurant
