Talk is rife that Gianluigi Donnarumma, the 18 year Italian international goalkeeper will sign a new contract with AC Milan which includes a clause allowing him to join Real Madrid in 2018.
The youngster has had a rough period over the past few weeks as super-agent Mino Raiola has turned his head to look for more lucrative deals and the Milan Ultras took exception to this. Donnarumma claims he has been getting death threats as a result. While no one should be subject to this abuse, especially an 18 year old, the Milan fans feel the goalkeeper should be showing some loyalty since the club were willing to take a big risk on him by playing him at the age of 16. AC Milan will feel they have contributed alot to his progression and deserve respect in return by at least staying with the San Siro side for a few years.
While playing recently for Italy Donnarumma had fake dollars thrown at him from the stands. He brushed it off by saying he's not worried about dollars, but only Euros.
It seems a matter of time before he leaves for one of the other big European clubs. The latest development in the contract situation should please AC Milan officials but I doubt the ultras will give Gianluigi a warm reception first game of the Serie A season.
Loyal, one clubs players seem to be a declining trend. With the likes of Totti, Lahm, Gerard, Scholes, Giggs, Zanetti all retiring recently, do you feel this type of player is a rarity now?

He doesn't deserve that contract. Milan is a great club which has fallen to the level of "begging" 17, 18 year old players to sign. What a bad situation. I hope these new signings bring Milan CL participation next season. Hundrends of millions spent already. But it all depends on the teams spirit.

I think it's damage limitation now. I agree, he doesn't deserve it. I think it at least allows Milan to get a good fee for him when he eventually does leave instead of leaving on a free which would have been a real kick in the teeth. Milan are certainly making a statement with all the money they are spending this summer

Well to be honest, I feel "clubism" should be a thing again. The ultras are exaggerating as usual, but I do have a bit of understanding for them. They are the people who are fighting against the modern commerical football. So to answer, yes it is a huge rarity today to be a loyal footballer, and it will be only worse, with chinesse money playing a bigger role in the market.

Well said. It seems after Totti and Lahm retired there is only Buffon left. Who else can be called a one club man who is still playing?

True, noone major, you would find a lot in Croatia, Serbia and other countries with strong nationalistic values. But noone of the big names.

Buffon isn't a one club man, but I get your point.
There's De Rossi and Iniesta.

Messi has always played for Barça since he made the first team. But if you are at a club like Barça it's easier to stay. especially with the contracts they give him.

They opted to pay for his medical treatment when younger when other clubs wouldn't take that risk so I guess that had a big part to play in his loyalty also. Although I think Messi has been offered bigger money to move from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester city. Probably a Chinese club too!

Agree. Agents such as Raiola and Mendes are not good for the game

Lads, as football lovers, I have to ask if you've heard of Football Index (not a promoter or anything)? It's basically a stock market for footballers so you can speculate on players like Donnarumma and compete with friends while making some decent money along the way. If you're not interested then no problem at all but if it sounds interesting, check it out and also feel free to look at my blog I'm just starting where I'm going to be posting tips about which players to buy for serious profits
