It looks like Paul Pogba whatever he does, he is always in the news. He was taken down in the box on Monday against Wolves and Manchester United were awarded the penalty. Pogba was Uniteds penalty taker up until he missed 4 in a row and then Markus Rashford was given the honours. Rashford had buried a penalty against Chelsea just last week. So why was Paul Pogba stepping up to take this one?? Rashford came over and they had a conversation. The alpha male was pulling rank and he was taking the peno. Commentators were asking the same question I was. Gary Neville in fairness to him mentioned that both players had a similar conversation at Chelsea and Rashford took it. Neville was not happy. He knew the story. Pogba was overiding the penalty taker. If he scores this will be a storm in a teacup. Pogba stepped up.
Misses.
He pulls his shirt over his head to cover his embarassment. United ended up drawing with Wolves. The mob were back out baying for his blood. He even got racial abuse on Twitter. The United manager Ole Gunnar was interviewed after it. He said both players were the penalty takers and they would decide on the pitch who should take it.
Really?, I thought to myself. I wondered would Pepe, Poch, Mourinho or any other elite manager have the same laid back approach. Not a fucking chance I thought. Ole was covering for a clear break of rank was my opinion. There was no way he would of gave the penalties to two players. Maybe 1st and 2nd but not joint. If he did then it shows how much control he has or even hasn't at the club. Alarm bells started ringing.
The other thing I learned was the lack of leadership on the pitch. I remember back when Diego Forlan joined United. Van Nistelroy was the penalty taker. United were up 4- nil against some club. They received a penalty. Forlan was having a hard time at the start of his United career. He didn't score yet. Van Nistelroy gave Forlan the ball to take the penalty. Anyone who has read about how ruthless Van Nistelroy was in his prime , this was a minor miracle that he would be this kind to another player. Forlan was walking up to the penalty spot when the captain Roy Keane came along, took the ball back off Forlan and gave it back to the penalty taker Van Nistelroy. He wasn't having any of it. A goal could be the difference between winning the league and losing it and Keane wasn't going to take any chances. He was the leader and he was ruthless with his own players. United needed a Keane on Monday night. If he was there Rashford would of buried it. Some pundits reckon Pogba is trying to get as many goals under his belt for brand Pogba so he can force a move at christmas.I do not think that but Rashford needed to man up and tell Pogba where to go. What do you guys think?
I think its all about media hype and I can't see why people took so much criticism on Pogba taking a penalty.
That man is a superstar in Juventus. He's one of their elite scorers and though I wasn't able to scout him, his match against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final was superb. He was a star in Juventus.
It was unfortunate that he missed the penalty but that man deserves more. I can't see Man U's premier league stint without Pogba imho.

You mentioned Pep and it is easy to forget but Sterling, Aguero and Mahrez have taken penalties when the other is on the pitch. The later is however more memorable during the Liverpool match where he missed a penalty in the final minutes which would have let city win the title more comfortably. However they ended up drawing the match.
This is the second game of the season and for a united side that is not capable of winning the league this season it is shocking that a penalty miss in that game is such a big deal.
Pogba is such a massive figure. Maybe it is racism, maybe it is the fact that he is muslim or maybe they just don't like his breath or hair....but what is undeniable is that Pogba gets sooooo much stick in the media over non issues.

I think it is what he says and does that make him such a target. He is hoping for a transfer so the fans and players don't really want him around anymore. The sooner he goes the better for the team. He kind of reminds me of Balotelli and thinks he is better than he actually is.

That is a feasible argument. But people forget that Koscielny pulled a similar stunt and even refused to go on tour with Arsenal till he was sold. Both Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo did the same thing. Rooney got a new contract and Ronaldo stayed for one year then left the next.
Pogba has kept his head down and has been a model professional since then unlike his friend Lukaku but still none of those players get it like Lukaku. I could also mention Eriksen at Spurs.
I think most of us fans are resigned to Paul leaving because he was sold a false dream. He was sold a rebuild and even now the midfield is devoid of talent. We have only solved the defence after 6 years of Smalling and Jones, Young and Valencia.
What is it really about Pogba that illicits so much vile and venom towards him.

Good point about city. Il need to look into that . Who took what penalties last year with them . Im nearly fully sure Aguero is the main man and Sterling is next up . My argument is more along the lines of Ole Gunnars management style rather than poor Paul. He does get alot of stick but I do think its how he plays it up on social media rather than what religion he is. Think Lingard got some stick too but he is nowhere near the profile of 9. But you are right . Any other player and it would not be talked about as much. Maybe pogba was the penalty taker and rashford pulled rank against chelsea . Nice comment though. I love you man! 😘

1st thing, Paul is not poor 🤪 second, I do agree with your idea of a "Keane" being needed there at that moment, not only to show that some stricter order is in place, but also if the penalty was missed, some of the blame and stick would be split. (I hope you get the meaning, english is not my first language)

I think Pogba is not a team player and it is all about himself. I am happy to see this though as I don't particularly like Pogba or United that much.

Paul pogba is a good player on the field but as a penalty taker i dont think he should fill in the position of taking any spot kick for the united.

Pogba is sick. Right after his transfer to ManU, he is trying to put himself to the leader role. Well, not the leader, but the star of the team. The one, who score goals. The one, who is everyone talking about. The one with a great haircut. "THE ONE, PAUL POGBA".
But!
He can play great matches, on the other hand, some matches under Mourinho, he looked not as professional, but someone who already won World Cup and Golden ball himself at least twice. The one, who is only here for attacking, not hard work.
If there would be someone like Roy Keane (and I am curious who was it in Juventus and who did this job in France national team), he will be "one of the players in the team", well-paid and well-played one. But the stamp of the most expensive player of ManU is a problem for him, it made a problem in his mind.
