CLOWNEY "THE HIT": What You Don't Know
The clip below was played on ESPN daily for possibly over a year. Each day they would take the best play and vote on which was the better one. It took a very long time to find a sports moment more impacting.
What You May Not Have Known:
The Gamecocks were gaining momentum and Michigan did a desperation fake punt on their own side. They did not get the first down but the referee's gave them the first down. This was obviously the wrong call and you can see it on this video that wasn't played. This was the play that was right before 'THE HIT'.
Later, Spurrier said he went to the line judge and asked what happened on that play and even he admitted they didn't get the first down.
The Craziest Part of All:
Everyone was going crazy on the Gamecock sideline. Clowney went to his defense and said ' Guys dont worry about it I'm getting the ball back'. Next play, he didn't just want the ball but a touch down. They tackled him but it was still an amazing play. Yes, Clowney could take over a game and did many times.
The other part I laughed at is when the next series the running back came back in Clowney said "I didn't expect to see you again".
How Did the Game END?
The backup quarterback came in because the starter had just been injured.
