Ex Player Managers Will They Last The Season?

I actually feel sorry for him as he is on a hiding to nothing. He inherited a shocking squad yet he hasn't done much to fix it.

We all saw the draw for the Champions League the other day and those fixtures are kicking off in just over two weeks time. The other Europa League is also starting at the same time so teams need to get a crack on and start banking points in the Premiership quickly.

I am not worried about Liverpool or Manchester City as they honestly look to be in their own league right now. Both have played 3 games and are on 9 and 7 points respectively with City's only blip a draw against Tottenham which could turn out to be a good point won.

We are only 3 games into the season so it is too early for the clubs to push the panic button, but in 6 to 8 weeks time some will have to start thinking of plan "B".This is the reality for the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea especially.

United are in 5th spot currently, but in reality are tied on the same amount of points as 14th spot except for goal difference. Let us face it United are not the same as they were 10 years ago and the quality has left the building a long time ago. They are living off past glory days and they are not coming back anytime soon with the squad they have currently. Who in this team would make a Fergie United team and that would only be de Gea. That should say something of how the standards have dropped at Old Trafford.

Looking at their fixture list they would have been better off not having a Europa League berth as they seriously need to concentrate on staying within range of the top 4. Southampton away this weekend is not easy and nothing is guaranteed followed by Leicester City at home. Leicester are above them in the table currently and this is another tricky game. We then see them have a run of a few cup games followed by West Ham away which is not easy again with United struggling here in the past.

We then look a little further and throw in Arsenal,Newcastle and Liverpool and we are at the end of October. I am starting to wonder whether Ole will have his job still going into Christmas as what will his fans and bosses expect out of these games. There are 6 Premier League games and there is no ways realistically they are going to bag a full house of points. I can see 8 or 9 points possibly depending on this weekends result which would leave them on played 9 with 12 or 13 points. Not great, but realistic and what the club deserves for not fixing the real problem and just covering the cracks.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both gone the ex player manager route and neither of them have a proven track record. Maybe it is better than getting an expensive one with a proven track record as these two know the clubs. Time will tell whether it was a good decision or not.

Chelsea are in a similar position to United as they can't buy any players just yet and United haven't off loaded very many to buy replacements. Maybe the panic button will come in the January window which will be way too late by then.

Chelsea have Wolves this weekend away from home followed by Liverpool at home. They are also involved in various cup games followed by Southampton, Burnley, Newcastle and Watford. These are teams you would think they would eat for breakfast, but the reality is the likes of Chelsea and United are of similar quality to these teams just with a bigger fan base.

I think both of these clubs are in trouble and like an alcoholic they need to hit rock bottom before it gets fixed. United were lucky last season where they finished and over achieved and this year a top 8 finish would be an achievement with what they have. It will be interesting to see who lasts longer Frank managing Chelsea or Ole with United. I don't think either of them will see the end of the season and I hope I am wrong.

Well the season just began and I would say it is still early to lay judgement on tje managers now. But I believe as the season continue there would changed and also improvement. Till them time will tell.

I just see it as a high stakes gamble. Supporters will go along with it as who else is there ? Mourinho failed hopelessly and Pep went to Manchester City.

I believe the ex-player managers can last the season if the players in their team are ready to give their all in every match.. And if they are accepted by the fans.

I give my bows to Frank to outlast Ole, but this is just personal, but at least it got recorded here!

I don't even know what this sport is that you are talking about? Is it soccer? :) I can see how having a passion for a game doesn't necessarily mean you would be a good manager or coach. You have to be able to make smart moves and inspire your players.
