Stupid Comparison

I have been reading a few stories dotted over the internet sports pages and it is regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making remarks about his players. The latest one is comparing Marcus Rashford to Cristiano Ronaldo saying he can be as good as him. I think it is unfair of him to put that type of comment out to the press.I just find it stupid and pathetic.

Young players developing their game at their own pace don't needed added pressure like this and just think it is a little reckless. Football is a team sport and a striker is only as good as the players around him. If Rashford played in the United team 10 or 15 years ago he probably wouldn't make the bench. He is standing out right now as this is the only hope the team has of doing well.

It is way too early to make any comparisons as Cristiano Ronaldo was playing in a much better team and still stood out. Rashford wouldn't make that team so comparison is squashed already and is just stupid.

If you look at any striker who has a great season scoring 20-30 goals they have top players around them giving them the service and opportunities to score. Yes the great players also create their own opportunities on top of opportunities made by team mates. United don't have the playmakers right now that can open defenses up.

If you look at the last two games United played they were against "top" teams who are struggling with their own defense. Manchester City and Tottenham are a shambles at the back right now and when it is sorted players like Rashford need to create the opportunities which to be frank he isn't there yet.

What Solskjaer is doing is setting him on a course to fail as he has to live up to expectations which I find unfair. He is Marcus Rashford and not a Cristiano Ronaldo and there is nothing wrong with that. Why can't he be himself and possibly if he moves away from United could live up to those expectations. Staying with them will more likely hinder his growth as the service from the players around him is just not good enough.

Over the years in English cricket we always here of commentators saying is so and so the next Ian Botham. Why do they put pressure on players like this boggles my mind. There was only one Ian Botham and the same thing applies with only one Cristiano Ronaldo.

I think Solskjaer is hoping he has a world class striker on his hands as he doesn't have much else to look forward to. If he is banking on Rashford staying with the club when he is scoring plenty of goals then he is living in a dream world. Rashford if he is decent enough will move on like all the other players have before him and the club will make a tidy profit. I just think it is just way too early to start comparing players to other players and should never happen.

All you have to do is ask yourself would Rashford play instead of any other player in the team from 10 or 15 years ago and the simple answer is no.

I think the Solskjaer comparison is to like jive up Rashford to be a better players. Truth is, we don't have great players anymore and what we use to have ten years ago is simply spectacular. These days we have average Chelsea and we have average Manchester United.

I dont believe their should be comparison between the two players for now because the difference is so clear that Ronaldo in every aspect is better than rashford

You are an Englishman. I see a reference to cricket and Ian Botham. Well, good to know. :)
