The French judiciary has lifted judicial supervision of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for alleged involvement in the extortion of his compatriot Mathieu Valbuena, his lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, told AFP.
"We are very satisfied, that means that Benzema will regain his normal life," the lawyer said.
Judicial control was imposed on Benzema in November 2015, following his involvement in the blackmail of his fellow Frenchman.
The judicial monitoring included banning Benzema from communicating with his childhood friend Karim Zinati, who is also involved in the blackmail case.
In March 2016, the Court of Appeal of Versailles, in part, raised the court order and ruled that Benzema could return to contact Valbuena, while keeping him from communicating with the other involved in the case.
Under the new ruling, according to sports daily L'Equipe, all banalities are lifted on Benzema.
The Versailles court has been considering the case so far, but the Supreme Court sent the case on July 11 to the Paris court, which will have to review the case.
The new court is expected to question Benzema's involvement, which has prevented him from wearing the French national team shirt.
