Promoting social cohesion between Civil Society Organizations and Entrepreneurs of Bamenda via football

Last week Saturday was an interesting Saturday for me and I really enjoyed spending time with my friends and colleagues of the civil society and business sectors. We had an exciting football encounter that featured the Civil Society Organizations join the Business Entrepreneurs to play against the workers of Usmaniya Contructions, a building construction firm based in Bamenda.

Starting at 08:00AM the first half of the game was unusual and lasted for 1 hour with Usmaniya Constructions taking the goal lead.

At half time, the Civil Society Activists and Business Entrepreneurs strategized and during the second half of the game, led the game with ball possession and took the lead with 2 goals against 1. 5 Minutes to the end of the game, Usmaniya Construction earned a free kick that turned to a goal. The game finally ended with a tie of 2:2 goals.

The high and interesting points of the game were that;

1. About 40% of the Big Mankon Field was really muddy and to run at that end of the pitch was a herculean task. This explains why the game was also a mud bath! Hahahahahaha
2. The game lasted for 2 hours. It was a game of men and we played football for 2 hours but interestingly, Usmaniya constructions made about 8 changes meanwhile our squad made just 2 changes.
3. The game promoted social cohesion between the business entrepreneurs and civil society actors hence nurtured unity to foster the development of people, profit and planet.
   After the game, we went for refreshment during which we sang songs, shared fun stories of the game and talked about our businesses and organizations.
